This is a wonderful family comedy, with a loving family that consists of a father and mother who are still in love with one another, Patty the eldest girl on the cusp (11 months away) of womanhood, Melba who has a crush on the boy who has a crush on her sister, and the two younger boys McCormick and Ricky. The whole family goes to the Catskills for a two week vacation that is filled with swimming, music, roughhousing, sodas, ice cream, dances, and fireworks.

Patti falls in love with a Cuban played by Ricardo Mantalban named Demi and she gets some bad advice from her friend Valerie...who steers her in to lying about being able to swim etc.

I love Ricardo Mantalban, who is wonderful in this film...but it is really about the family and for my money Debbie Reynolds is the real one to watch. Fun, funny and engaging. She sings beautifully and has a gorgeous smile. This is a recommendation from me.
