The Hitcher (1986)

It's just a movie!

I like Rutger Hauer, he was a very good actor. But, in this film, I would have preferred him not to use that characteristic smile, used by him in many other films. That smile makes him pleasant and likable, you can't hate him as much as you should, for everything he does in the movie, for killing people for no reason. OK, I accept that it is the smile of a psychopath, but it would have been much stronger, more believable, more convincing, without any smile. In this way, he would have perfectly painted the portrait of a madman to be truly afraid of. The film has something in common with Spielberg's "Duel", in which we don't even see the face of the psychopath in the tractor-trailer. C. Thomas Howell is just OK. All the other actors are just OK. The only one who is special is Jennifer Jason Leigh, who has a much too small role for her acting ability. I don't consider "The Hitcher" a cult film, as I read.
