Stargate SG-1: Politics (1998)
Season 1, Episode 20
8/10
A clip show for sure, but one with Drama and some setup
9 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
There are episodes I like to skip with SG-1, most all are in Season 1.

But this clip show actually has a pretty decent degree of drama to it.

It introduces us to thorn in the side character of Kinsey, who is easily the most easily despised Tau'ri human character on the show.

Heck, he's worse than a low of the Gou'ld.

So even on a rewatch I typically include this episode.

But it is hardly a normal episode, besides clips there is none of the regular cast no gate travel.

One thing I like about this and some of the other episodes

Where the actions of the team are questioned, if it gives an interesting and important perspective even if I don't ultimately agree with many of the points, some points are valid to a degree.

We know that if they never find the Stargate, Earth seems to be eventually invaded anyway but in the short term gate travel has many times endangered earth and only by the skin of their teeth have SG-1 managed to avoid calamity, and not in all realities, and not always the first time through (time travel can save the day).

If you want to skip episodes, skin ep 3, Emancipation, and skip ep 4 and 5 (Broca & easily my least favorite ep. The First Commandment).

Skip Brief Candle (I mean, it's kinda boing and very implausible) and most with Teal'C's family are not so great, I like Teal-C but don't like his family and it never made sense he left them to suffer the wrath of Apophis), and they are not good to him until eventually Rya'c comes around.
