American Marines are ready to land on a Japanese occupied island during WWII. This uses old war footage to accentuate the battle action. They try to do some big set pieces, but the smaller personal scenes often come off as inauthentic. At other times, they hit it out of the park. It's a mixed bag, but the effort is there. Same goes for the equipment. It's not all WWII era, but I'll give it a pass. This movie does have the Japanese side for a few times although I would like for them to have more story. This is basically war, war, and more war. It's action with some walking and talking. I actually don't like the flashback section with the wife which comes off very melodramatic. Unless one recognizes these actors, nobody is going to stand out from the crowd. It's an interesting exercise if nothing else.
