In San Francisco, the former police detective Adrian Monk had a trauma, when the car of his beloved wife Trudy exploded four years ago. Now he is under therapy with Dr. Charles Kroger and is suffering of obsessive-compulsive disorder with many phobias. He is very talented in his investigations, and works with his friend and nurse Sharona Fleming, who helps him emotionally in the cases. Presently, he is working in the murder of the young woman Nicole Vasquez at home and gives many leads to his former boss Captain Leland Stottlemeyer and his assistant Lt. Deacon. When there is an assassination attempt of the mayoral candidate Warren St. Claire by a sniper in a rally, his bodyguard Jason Ronstadt is hit and dies. Warren demands that Monk assumes the case and Captain Stottlemeyer is forced to accept Monk working with him.
"Mr. Monk and the Candidate" is the pilot of the series "Monk", with a great introduction of this lead character. His phobias are funny and makes laugh, but his effectiveness is impressive, seeing what other people do not see. His assistant Sharona understands and helps him in the cases. This first one is very well resolved. My vote is eight.
