You aren't a Mel Brooks fan if you haven't seen Blazing Saddles. Many would consider it as Mel Brooks's best film, but it's my second favorite behind Spaceballs. I liked Blazing Saddles because half of the humor is timeless classics but the other half felt more topical to the time period. The holding himself hostage scene was my personal favorite and the farting scene is my parents' favorites. Mel Brooks has this way of being able to tackle serious issues like race and make it funny without starting riots. Blazing Saddles isn't my favorite, but it's really good and I'd recommend it to all fans of comedy.
