María Félix: What a fascinating experience!!
davidtraversa-130 July 2010
I just finished watching this movie on You Tube. They show it divided in 13 episodes (To watch it just type: María Félix -her movies).

I started watching the first episode, just curious to see María Félix (at her time she was considered the most beautiful woman in the world), and following the dialogs, her incredible character, the sets, her clothes, the men outfits (1946), the American cars of the time, the fabulous white and black photography, some of the takes incredibly dark, I got swept away and couldn't go fast enough from one episode to the next one, cursing the Internet for being so slow in giving me the next episode.

I can understand now the power of soap operas!! It's unbelievable how very well done were those movies! and I don't mean by that the technicality, that nowadays is ages ahead, but the way they knew how to grasp your interest!!

"La Doña" (as she used to be known in all Mexico and Southamerica, because of her haughty ways and fabulous presence) always played extremely nasty women --in this case I definitely think she was a totally paranoiac personality, that one hates to love (and loves to hate)-- and in this movie she is at her best in that salsa.

I enjoyed the movie enormously and after all those years, she still is on the screen the most beautiful woman in the world. From Argentina, with all my admiration: David Traversa.

Warning: Spoilers
Maria Felix was famous for her femme fatale roles, and here she is at her best. She is a BAD BAD woman, who is nevertheless irresistible to men. She looks gorgeous, but she destroys men. When she kills one of her ex-lovers, she manages to get a new lover to help her hide the body. While she is seducing one man, she is plotting to marry another one. She destroys families. She destroys men's careers. She steals their fortunes. She stops at nothing to get her way. Of course she gets punished in the end (how could she not?) but she's one of those characters you love to hate. The costumes and sets are beautiful. Maria Felix's eyes are magnificent, and they burn with fire when she's plotting some evil deed. With a slight cock of her head to the side and an ironic smile, she makes men go mad. The final shot of her in her wedding gown is great - what a commentary on the "purity" of the woman wearing the white dress.
