Phaedra Parks Making A Return To Rhoa?
Viewers loved seeing Phaedra Parks when she was part of Season 2 of Rhugt which took place in the Berkshires. She was joined by Eva Marcille, also from Rhoa as well as Tamra Judge, Vicki Gunvalson, Brandi Glanville, Taylor Armstrong, Jill Zarin, and hostess, Dorinda Medley. Fans were so happy to see a fun and lighthearted side to Phaedra and hoped she would return to their Bravo screens. She did in Season 10 of Married to Medicine as well as another edition of the Rhugt. Sadly, that may never air due to issues between Caroline Manzo and Brandi Glanville.

‘Traitors’ Winner Chris ‘Ct’ Tamburello: ‘The Game Was Designed to Keep You in a State of Confusion’
To viewers of MTV’s The Challenge, it shouldn’t have been a big surprise that Chris “Ct” Tamburello won the second season of the U.S. incarnation of Traitors alongside his longtime Challenge co-competitor Trishelle Cannatella. He’s appeared on 19 seasons of The Challenge and won $1,365,000 — more than any other contestant in the history of the show. But things looked bleak for the Challenge crew when Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio was the first Traitors contestant eliminated this season on The Traitors. “Bananas being eliminated so early doesn’t sit well with me,...

Peacock’s Emmy-nominated competition series “The Traitors” is gearing up for its second season of lies, betrayals and cloaks. Due out in early 2024, the Season 2 cast features a lineup of familiar faces from reality shows (like “Survivor’s” Parvati Shallow and Sandra Diaz-Twine and “Big Brother’s” Dan Gheesling and Janelle Pierzina) and other notable areas.
Just like last season, the new installment will take place in the Scottish Highlands with Alan Cumming back as the impeccably dressed host. And this time around, he’ll have a cute sidekick in the form of his dog Lala. The cast will be randomly divided into villainous Traitors and heroic Faithfuls (those who try to uncover the truth). The ultimate winner will take home a cash prize of up to $250,000.

On the heels of his acclaimed stage performance at London’s National Theater for “Phaedra,” Assaad Bouab (“Call My Agent!,” “Bad Sisters”) is set to team with filmmaker Benjamin Ross (“The Frankenstein Chronicles”) and European production banner Asacha Media Group on “Voyager.”
“Voyager” will star Bouab as legendary Medieval explorer and philosopher Ibn Battuta who went on pilgrimage to Mecca and ended up travelling for over twenty years and over 76000 miles across Africa, India and Eurasia, more than anyone in pre-modern history. Battuta logged his experiences of the people, places and cultures he encountered along the way, writing one of the world’s earliest and most famous travelogues, The Rilah, and earning himself legendary status in history. The project is being developed as a series.
Bouab, who is half Moroccan, said “Ibn Battuta is one of the greatest explorers of all time and I would have loved to have had his life.

Exclusive: Mackenzie Davis is set to join the cast of Speak No Evil for Blumhouse and Universal.
The film, which will be released August 9, 2024, is a new adaptation of the acclaimed Danish horror film Gæsterne, about a family invited for a weekend at an idyllic country house — a dream holiday that warps into a snarled psychological nightmare.
Written and directed by James Watkins, Speak No Evil is based on the Gæsterne screenplay by Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup. Released in 2022, Gæsterne earned 11 Danish Film Awards nominations, the Danish equivalent of the Oscars.
Davis join James McAvoy, who previously starred in the Blumhouse-produced hit thrillers Split and Glass.
Davis was most recently seen on stage in Simon Stone’s production of Phaedra at the National Theatre and in the acclaimed HBO Max limited series Station Eleven, based on the Emily St. John Mandel novel and adapted for TV by Patrick Somerville.

The top honorees at the 2023 Laurence Olivier Awards were plays that focused on cultures outside of London. “My Neighbour Totoro,” which is based on the beloved Japanese film of the same name from Studio Ghibli, won six trophies, the most of the night, including Best New Comedy, Director, and four craft categories. A revival of the American classic “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams claimed three: Best Play Revival and for lead Paul Mescal and featured player Anjana Vasan. Meanwhile, the British-based “Prima Facie,” which is set to bow on Broadway this month and will thus compete at the Tony Awards, took home two prizes for Best Play and for star Jodie Comer.
The only other productions to win more than one trophy were all musicals. “Standing at the Sky’s Edge” won two of the top prizes: Best Musical and Best Original Score or New Orchestrations. “Tammy Faye,...

Two new works based on existing material dominated the nominations for the 2023 Olivier Awards, the top theatre honor in Britain. “My Neighbour Totoro” and “Standing at the Sky’s Edge” lead the play and musical fields with nine and eight bids apiece. The former is a stage adaptation of the Studio Ghibli film of the same name, brought to life in a visually stunning production featuring impressive puppetry by Basil Twist. “Standing at the Sky’s Edge” uses songs from the Richard Hawley album and new material to tell the story of three families in a Sheffield housing complex.
Revivals had strong showings, too. Director Daniel Fish’s remounting of “Rodger & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!” and the Paul Mescal-led “A Streetcar Named Desire” netted seven and six nominations, respectively. This production of “Oklahoma!” previously played Broadway and received eight Tony Award nominations, including wins for Best Revival and Featured Actress...

Con O’Neill, who plays Neil Ackroyd in BBC One’s hit drama Happy Valley, has said his mind was “blown” when he read the script for the season finale.
The last-ever episode of the series aired on Sunday (5 January), in which main character Catherine Cawood (played by Sarah Lancashire) came face-to-face with Tommy Lee Royce (played by James Norton).
In last week’s penultimate episode, fans were left in suspense, concerned that prison escapee Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) might harm Catherine and take his son (and her grandson) Ryan, played by Rhys Connah, off to Spain.
Speaking on Thursday’s episode of This Morning (2 February), O’Neill shared his excitement for the finale.
O’Neill didn’t reveal any spoilers regarding the season finale but admitted that the script blew his mind when he read it.
“It blew my mind,” he said. “Sally [Wainwright, the show’s writer] has written an extraordinary ending to this show.

Leading Chilean producer-director Matías Cardone of Invercine Producciones and “My Last Round” director Julio Jorquera have teamed on the time capsule documentary “Real Time,” screening in this year’s online Sanfic Industria Work in Progress sidebar.
“Real Time” starts with a long-lost VHS of an artistic performance in Chile’s turbulent 1980s, featuring Patricia Rivadeneira and Vicente Ruiz, exponents of the Chilean counterculture during Pinochet’s brutal dictatorship. Nearly four decades later, the two set out, with help from Cardone and Jorquera, to reconnect with old friends and remember old stories which explore their own personal past . In modern-day interviews, the film forces its subjects to question their often enduring roles as transgressive artists against an oppressive system.
Cardone spoke to Variety about the origins of “Real Time,” the international appeal of political performance art and what role artists play in times of political upheaval.

“The Favourite” won seven BAFTA Awards on Sunday, including Best British Film. The latter was the first win of the night and brought director Yorgos Lanthimos and screenwriters Tony McNamara and Deborah Davis backstage. In our interview, I asked if any modern rivalries had influenced how they created the conflict-laden tale of women vying for power.

Before Robert Rodriguez created the El Rey Network in 2013, he came up with the contest: He would task burgeoning filmmakers with executing their first features in two weeks for just $7,000, the same limitations that produced his storied debut. (Said Rodriguez: “I thought no one was going to see it; that’s why I spent so little.”) “El Mariachi” secured Columbia Pictures distribution and the Guinness World Record for lowest-budget flick to earn more than $1 million (the same amount the studio reportedly spent on its marketing).
For the film’s quarter-century anniversary, Rodriguez made the competition a reality: Borrowing its name from Rodriguez’s 1995 memoir, “Rebel Without a Crew” began streaming March 19 on go90. He handpicked five directors (who include three women) from a capped pool of more than 2,000 applicants.

What is it? A sexy college professor seduces her student, and then people start dying horrible deaths.
Why see it? I’ve been a Sybil Danning fan for more years than I care to recall, but somehow this one slipped past me before now. What is it? A sexy college professor seduces her student, and then people start dying horrible deaths.
Why see it? I’ve been a Sybil Danning fan for more years than I care to recall, but somehow this one slipped past me before now. I’m not sure what teen me would have thought, but as an adult I’m in awe of just how off the rails it gets from its very clear T&A origin. From the cover to the copy the film sells itself as just another sex flick, but...

Or, “Never on Sunday with Your Stepson.” Director Jules Dassin’s monument to his beloved Melina Mercouri transposes a Greek tragedy to a modern setting. The pampered wife of a shipping magnate is like a queen of old — she can fling a priceless gem into the Thames on just a whim, and she goes in whatever direction her heart takes her. When her attractive stepson Anthony Perkins enters the picture, there will be Hell to Pay.

Films from former socialist bloc countries swept the awards at the 26th Panorama of European Cinema Festival in Athens.

The film is a sentimental drama with social and environmental overtones set in the Russian Kola peninsula on the North Sea coast.
Class Enemy by Slovenian Rok Bicek, in which students and teachers clash at a high school, received the Fipresci award.
Withering by Milos Pusic, a Serbian-Swedish-Swiss co-production about a young villager’s efforts to escape poverty by emigrating to Switzerland, received the audience award.
A career award was presented to local director Yorgos Tsemberopoulos, back from the UK where his latest The Enemy Within played at the London Film Festival.

Anthony Perkins in Goodbye Again
Happy birthday to the man I call my Time Machine Husband (Tm), Anthony Perkins. The effete, beautiful actor best known for his astonishing performance as Norman Bates in Psycho would've been 81 today, and without even reading Charles Winecoff's gripping biography Split Image, you can tell in Mr. Perkins' performances that he was enigmatic, complicated, and conflicted. Though Perkins died of AIDS in 1992, his silver screenlegacy endures thanks to his lengthy, strange filmography.
Hollywood wanted Perkins to be the next James Dean, but his vulnerability and (frankly) apparent gayness stood at odds with that demand. As I like to say, we can't rewrite cinematic history to include all the wonderful gay characters we deserve, so we as gay entertainment anthropologists have to find our stories in the nuances, innuendos, and otherwise untold stories hidden right onscreen (perhaps unintentionally), right within all the stated heterosexuality. Though...

Jules Dassin had established himself as a very capable, smart genre filmmaker in Hollywood by the time the blacklist kicked him out. In Britain, he made Night and the City (1950), which continued his winning streak, and in France Rififi (1955) not only anticipated the direction Jean-Pierre Melville's career was about to take (translating American crime movie tropes to the French idiom), it spawned a whole sub-genre of unofficial sequels. Dassin's own Topkapi (1964) was a colorful spoof of the heist movie.
But the other strand of Dassin's European filmmaking is not so popular: his attempts at being an arthouse director have inspired considerable derision: David Thomson recommends The Law, Phaedra and 10:30 P.M. Summer as cures for suicidal depression; their earnestness strikes him as irresistibly preposterous.
Well, I can resist the temptation to laugh, up to a point: Anthony Perkins' torrid love scene with Dassin's wife, Melina Mercouri, in...

Too bad the critical symposium in the new, Winter 2012 issue of Cineaste isn't online. Participants evidently include Gianni Amelio, Olivier Assayas, Costa-Gavras, Robert Greenwald, and Sally Potter, "among others," but until we get our hands on the print edition, we'll have to make do with what is online, which, after all, is plenty: Patrick Z McGavin on Dave Kehr's When Movies Mattered: Reviews from a Transformative Decade, Richard James Havis on Kyung Hyun Kim's Virtual Hallyu: Korean Cinema of the Global Era, Andrew Horton on New Zealand Film: An Illustrated History and Henry K Miller on Brutal Intimacy: Analyzing Contemporary French Cinema and The New Extremism in Cinema: From France to Europe. And that's just the book reviews.
Besides the interviews with Mona Achache and Charlotte Rampling and festival reports (Locarno, Toronto and Montreal), the 15 reviews include David Sterritt on Kubrick's The Killing (1956), Joseph Luzzi on Raffaello Matarazzo,...

Following a tad slowly on the heels of "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief" and the upcoming "Clash of the Titans" remake is another blockbuster involving Greek mythology: "War of the Gods" (aka "Dawn of War"), a sword-and-sandals epic being helmed by visionary filmmaker Tarsem ("The Fall") that will tell the story of Athens founder and legendary Minotaur-killer Theseus. Henry Cavill (Showtime's "The Tudors") will star as the hero, and now joining him, according to Variety, is Indian actress Freida Pinto ("Slumdog Millionaire").
Pinto will play Phaedra, "an oracle priestess" and (future?) wife of Theseus, who joins him in the quest to stop the titular war -- pitting the younger Olympian gods against the elder Titan gods -- from beginning. The character has been portrayed many times on screen, mainly in adaptations of plays by Euripides and Jean Racine, the most recent of which starred Helen Mirren in the part.
