The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

There are brief sexual references.

There are a couple of times when a couple of characters mention false rumors of Melanie being pushed into a fountain, naked.

Violence & Gore

A woman gets pecked on the head by a seagull and we see a bloody cut on her forehead.

Gulls attack children and parents at a birthday party, bursting balloons and causing chaos, no one is harmed.

A woman finds a dead man covered in blood with his eyes pecked out.

Crows attack a group of fleeing school children and a young girl falls on the street, her face is half-covered in blood.

A gull knocks out a man pumping gas in his car and he drops the pump, the gasoline travels over to a man lighting a cigarette nearby who gets immolated from dropping his match and the gas station explodes. [Picky detail: it's a cigar, not a cigarette. The explosion is the same]

Gulls attack a town square and the streets erupt in pandemonium (cars crash, people get attacked).

A woman locks herself in a phone booth and gulls attack her from the outside, one manages to crash and crack the glass. A man getting attacked by gulls and covered in blood runs up to the booth but is then driven away.

A dead woman is seen lying on the sidewalk, we see a close-up of her bloody face.

Birds attack a family locked in a house from the outside, a man gets pecked on the hand and wrist from trying to close a window and we see blood. After he stitches his hand, he notices birds trying to peck their way in the front door and quickly boards it up with a piece of furniture.

A woman gets trapped in an attic and gets ravaged by invading birds. We see her struggle and get pecked on the face and legs, she nearly dies but gets discovered by someone and is dragged out of the room and we see numerous bloody gashes across her face and legs.

Profanity

Some very mild profanity, such as damn.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking

There are smoking scenes throughout the movie, including one scene when a character mentions the struggle she is going through to quit.

Interestingly, Tippi Hedren, the lead actress in this film, addressed the smoking issue in an interview on the 2001 DVD of this film. She said she has now quit smoking, and also said something to the effect that when this film was made (1963), the public was not fully aware of the dangers of smoking.

A woman offers another woman brandy. A woman is given brandy after she is seriously injured.

We see and hear birds attacking a house from the outside and at one point they knock the power out.

A character has to carefully walk through a flock of menacing seagulls in order to get to his car.

The birds shrieking and squawking noises are very disturbing.

Hundreds of finches fly through a chimney out a fireplace and briefly terrorize the family inside the house.

There is a scene where we see a dead corpse with it's eyes pecked out and covered with blood. This may be very shocking and frightening, especially to children.
