Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde version of The Inspector, and good at it!
au_law200122 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
In this one, after arresting a seemingly insane scientist, who keeps saying the cops are the ones who are crazy, The Inspector and Sgt. DeuxDeux investigate in his mansion, believing that a monster he created is still within the vicinity, until Deux drinks a strange potion which turns him into a monster, and keeps turning back and forth into it, but they still believe there is still a monster until the inspector chickens out when he finds Deux is the monster, until the real monster comes out saying how glad he is the two are gone, and how they frighten him. Funny but a bit predictable, I found the scene when Deux transforms and goes back to normal after seeing himself in the mirror the monster he became, and the ending where he keeps transforming back and forth very hilarious, I like that part, "No, no, don't leave me with that monster!" Anyways still a good episode, and funny too.

Been there, seen that, it's been done better elsewhere, but the ending is funny

Warning: Spoilers
This is an Inspector Clouseau short from Depatie-Freleng. There will be spoilers ahead:

This is yet another turn on the "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" story and frankly, it's been done to better effect elsewhere, most notably with Bugs Bunny and Tweety in separate shorts at Warner Brothers. This one's cute but predictable.

After a "mad" scientist is carted off for interfering with his neighbors' TV reception, The Inspector and Deaux-Deaux are searching his house, with the fear of finding a monster. Cue the bubbling beaker in the lab and Deaux-Deaux drinking it to calm his heartburn.

In a development which wouldn't surprise a sleeping two year old, Deaux-Deaux spends the rest of the short burping into and out of a transformation into a green monster, usually to the detriment of The Inspector. Most of the gags are repeats as well. They eventually leave the house, which triggers the best gag and probably the most "original" part of the short. It's worth watching just for the end! This short is on a DVD compilation of 17 Inspector shorts and the DVD is well worth getting.

The Inspector meets Robert Louis Stevenson

Anybody who likes the Pink Panther cartoons are very likely to get a kick of the Inspector series. Count me in as somebody who does like the Pink Panther cartoons and found myself liking The Inspector cartoons from 1965 to 1969 just as much as the 60s Pink Panther cartoons as a child. Like them even more through adult eyes with the humour being funnier and getting more out of the villains.

There are better cartoons though in the series than 'Sicque! Sicque! Sicque!' It is a more than watchable and actually just above average cartoon with enough of the usual strengths, but there are far funnier and more imaginative The Inspector cartoons in the series. It is nice to see Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde spoofed again, as it is a classic story and lends itself well to spoofing. Other cartoons spoofed it more imaginatively though, Looney Tunes more than once and very well.

'Sicque! Sicque! Sicque!'s' story is predictable and could have done with more energy. The gags are amusing and well timed enough, but again not fresh enough, they could have been sharper and some are more memorable than others.

On the other hand, have no issues with the animation. Fairly simple in terms of drawing but never ugly, while the somewhat abstract backgrounds have nice attention to detail, more so than the Pink Panther cartoons (not a knock at all on the animation of that series), and don't look sparse. But it is the deep and rich colours that stand out in this regard. Liked the jauntiness and jazzy slinkiness of the music, which didn't sound too cheap or repetitive.

Continue to love the chemistry between The Inspector and Deux Deux, two great and beautifully contrasted characters with the former being more bumbling and the latter being quieter. There are amusing and charming moments and Pat Harrington Jr as always does a great job with the voice work. Although needing more freshness and energy, a nice enough job is done with spoofing 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde'.

Physical comedy could have been sharper, but the verbal humour has enough wit and the word play nicely ironic. Great because they are what make the series work in terms of the writing.

In conclusion, decent. 7/10

This picture succeeds in its effort to prove that . . .

. . . the French are SICK! SICK! SICK!, as the title translates into American. Long recognized as the planet's most alcoholic region, SICK! Indicates that even the most timid Gallic gent can quickly transform into a hideously scary monster once he starts hitting the bottle. Unfortunately for the world, these hard-drinking miscreants always seem to have their poisonous tonic somewhere near at hand. After awhile, these fatally flawed misanthropes get to a point where a mere burp brings out the worst in them, as Sgt. Dodo's portrayal reveals. The moral of this story is to never trust any sort of elixir or beverage emanating from France.

Another Take On Jekyll & Hyde
ccthemovieman-114 March 2008
This reminded me of a Tom and Jerry cartoon (I think it was them) in which Jerry turned into a monster a number of times, going back and forth between mouse and monster. It was a take on the famous Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde story.

That's what happens here as Deux-Deux takes a drink at a mad scientist's house and the green stuff turns him into a big green monster for a few seconds. It's during those moments he terrorizes and pulverizes the Inspector. It happens faster and faster as the cartoon evolves with rapid-fire gags as this personality switch begins happening every few seconds.

This wasn't that humorous but it was very entertaining and fast-moving, thus, it still warrants an "8" rating simply because it was fun to watch. It's on the DVD "The Pink Panther Classic Cartoon Collection, Vol. 6 - Inspector Cartoons."
