Better stick to horror films
lor_30 September 2011
Calvin Floyd was a maverick director known for offbeat and well-regarded horror films (not many of them, however). This earlier effort at softcore sexploitation is a dud.

I saw a French-dubbed edition retitled "Voluptes en Suede", but the basic footage suggested a rather half-hearted effort. We witness a large group of young people visiting by bus a small Swedish community.

Free love and free living are the (now trite) themes, with plenty of simulated sex scenes, but no hardcore penetration shown. At one point they sit around watching an old-style stag film in black & white for fun, but it too is shown in softcore content.

The fun in the sun format is tiresome in the extreme, as a film of this sort (as witness countless examples cranked out in Scandinavia or Italy for example) needs comedy to maintain one's interest. By the time this was made (1974) the novelty of full-frontal-nudity (both sexes) and simulated sex had long outlived its welcome and some form of interesting or diverting content (or crossing the line over into hardcore territory) was due. Nudity as a commercial crutch was old-hat.

Cast includes a graduate of Joe Sarno's massively obscure Swedish-lensed movie THE INDELICATE BALANCE (Louise Tillberg), but none of the ensemble of players ever made the big time.
