George Lucas changed the course of science fiction and influenced generations to come with his epic space opera Star Wars. While the filmmaker only helmed the first film in the original trilogy, he was involved in the creative decisions that have made the franchise one of the most loved pop cultural milestones in Hollywood.
While Lucas’ billion-dollar franchise has fans worldwide, the movies have also come under stark criticism. Since the beginning of the franchise with A New Hope, Lucas has been accused of writing bad dialogue and crafting stories that were more kid-friendly. Lucas himself admitted to his shortcomings with dialogue and mentioned that the movie does not require smart lines.

Star Wars has been, and still is, a massive part of this particular writer’s life. Unfortunately, I wasn’t around to catch A New Hope or The Empire Strikes Back in cinemas when they were first released, but I did manage to sneak in to see those cuddly Ewoks lay waste to the Empire in Return of the Jedi back in 1983. The franchise inspired me to work in the industry, and I had the thrill of watching and re-watching the original trilogy countless times with friends and family. As we all know, the series evolved into a cultural behemoth and, unlike nowadays, where I think the amount of Star Wars content that is available to consume is actually to the detriment of the series’ quality, we only had the original movies to cling to.

The mastermind behind the massively fan-favorite Star Wars universe, George Lucas, never ceases to bring about the most epic of ideas to life. Be it ideas to include in his superhit lore or ideas to protect the same, he has most certainly been one of the most imaginative people to have ever walked on this planet. In fact, he even devised a plan to make his saga leak-proof!

While the rest of the franchises suffer brutally because of all the leaks — even the super-secretive Marvel Cinematic Universe, thanks to actors like Tom Holland — Lucas devised a leak-proof plan for the biggest spoiler in The Empire Strikes Back. And, surprisingly enough, this worked so terrifically that even the internet couldn’t spoil this mystery!

George Lucas, who established the Star Wars franchise with iconic films like A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, has not been directly involved with the film series for over a decade. However, it has not refrained him from sharing his views, as the filmmaker openly expressed his disappointment with the lack of originality in the 2015 film The Force Awakens.

However, there are still some projects that have not only captured his attention but have also received praise from the renowned filmmaker, such as the 2016 film Rogue One, as the screenwriter Tony Gilroy shared that Lucas had a lot of things to say about the film.

Star Wars is a franchise that requires quite a lot of physical dedication and commitment from its actors. Since the series has abundant action, fighting sequences and stunts are nothing new. Unfortunately, however, actors can often suffer collateral damage because of this.

Injuries on set are quite common in action films. Actors can accidentally get hurt for the aesthetic and authenticity of the project, and are forced to be bedridden or on the sidelines. Sometimes they bounce back quickly, and the show goes on after a small hiccup. Other times, filming is forced to be postponed until the star is able to come back swinging again.
One incident involving Harrison Ford and a hydraulic door became quite well-known. However, many fans might not know that there was another casualty to this prop.

The Empire Strikes remains one of the most iconic films of all time, while many regard it as the best entry in the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. With Star Wars day around the corner, fans must be looking to revisit The Empire Strikes, known for its ground-breaking visuals, including one scene where Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker faces a deadly creature, Wampa.

However, filming the Wampa scene was not as straightforward as it seems, because the creature was created practically without the use of CGI. Nonetheless, the original plan of action did not work, forcing the team to improvise and devise an inventive solution. Here is how the Wampa scene in The Empire Strikes was originally intended to be shot and why Lucas replaced it for the special edition.

Being as humongous and intricate as it is, the Star Wars franchise has had several plotholes that continue to confuse fans. From the Galaxy forgetting the Jedi to Palpatine’s secret horde of superweapons, there are several instances and events that remain unsolved. And one of the biggest plotholes is the relationship between Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker in the first film.

1977’s Star Wars, directed by George Lucas, captivated audiences worldwide with many falling in love with the galaxy far far away. While Luke, Leia, and Han Solo became fan favorites, the deaths of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader in the original trilogy moved fans because of their affection for the characters.

Here is why Lucas felt he dropped the ball with Boba Fett’s death and what he would have done differently in retrospect.

If the Star Wars franchise is considered one of the greatest film series of all time in Hollywood, the credit goes to its creative mastermind, George Lucas. The visionary director pioneered a sci-fi revolution with the epic space saga that spanned multiple decades to become a cult classic that will continue to remain evergreen for years to come.

However, Epic is gearing up for the game’s biggest Star Wars update yet, which is slated to release on May 3. Huge as the update may be, the recent announcement of a certain character has incited lukewarm reactions from fans: Lando Calrissian.

The famous twist at the end of Irvin Kershner's 1980 sci-fi epic "The Empire Strikes Back" — that the evil Darth Vader (James Earl Jones/David Prowse) was actually the father of the heroic Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) — was shocking enough to send seismic ripples through the future of pop culture. Young prospective filmmakers reared in 1980 were so shocked by the famed "Empire" revelation that the "hero was secretly related to the villain this whole time" twist would eventually become a common screenwriting trope.
As many Starwoids will be able to tell you, the "I am your father" twist famously contradicts dialogue from George Lucas' "Star Wars" from three years earlier. In that film, the trustworthy Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) revealed that he was friends with Luke's father, who was, by Obi-Wan's own description, definitely not Darth Vader. Indeed, Darth Vader was said to have murdered Luke's father. So when...

You might remember English actor Julian Glover for his role as Walter Donovan, the villain of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." A Nazi collaborator who wants the Holy Grail to achieve immortality, he meets a grisly end when he chooses ... poorly.
In his native England, Glover was a renowned member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. In Hollywood, though? He's a 6'2 British man, so, of course, he plays the heels, even in his later roles like Pycelle on "Game of Thrones." (Who knows if he'll show up in "3 Body Problem" with his former co-stars.)
"Last Crusade" was not Glover's first rodeo with Lucasfilm; he had a much smaller role in "The Empire Strikes Back" as Imperial General Veers. The general only shows up in the film's first act, but he leads the At-at assault on the Hoth Rebel base (with some insert shots of him riding in the...

When 1980’s Airplane! proved to be a massive hit, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of the year – up there with The Empire Strikes Back and Best Picture winner Kramer vs. Kramer – it was inevitable that it would get a sequel. But how often are comedy sequels good anyway? When have they ever really recaptured the magic and the laughter of the original? Well, Airplane II: The Sequel gave it a go…by basically being the same movie. Except this time around, Zaz wisely opted out, leaving the production without the strong leaders who reinvented the spoof genre. The upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte promises plenty of martial-arts-inspired action and a climactic lightsaber battle. The makers of the show recently mentioned that the team aimed to compete with Darth Maul’s legendary battle with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn in Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and called it the best lightsaber battle in Star Wars history.
But is it? The franchise has seen numerous lightsaber battles across media, with fan getting their first taste of the trope in Star Wars: A New Hope. While the original trilogy is still considered to be the best of the films released to date, the lightsaber battles seem to have improved since then. The prequel trilogy’s climactic showdown between Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker definitely has a higher ground in the category.

Way back in 2002, the excitement for Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones diminished somewhat. Late Night with Conan O’Brien sent Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to mock the fans lined up for the premiere, resulting in a segment in which comedian/puppeteer Robert Smigel launched nerd jokes at the assembly.
Most of the jokes were pretty obvious, including the last bit, in which a man cosplaying as Mr. Spock gained the knack for cursing and walked up and down the line with his middle finger extended. But while the perceived Star Wars vs. Star Trek rivalry has become an old toxic cliché at this point, the fact is that the two franchises don’t actually overlap very much in terms of their core missions. Trek favors optimistic philosophical inquiry and Wars emphasizes fantasy and adventure.

The "Star Wars" universe is stuffed with memorable baddies, and since the theatrical films have mostly been shot in London, these villains are typically from the United Kingdom. Everyone's got a favorite: Ian McDiarmid's sinister Emperor Palpatine, Peter Cushing's ruthless Grand Moff Tarkin (who was digitally resurrected for "Rogue One"), Kenneth Colley's stressed out Admiral Piett ... there's really no wrong answer here. But if I absolutely have to place one member of the Galactic Empire over all the others, I might just go with Julian Glover's delectably evil General Maximillian Veers.
Why? Even though he doesn't get much screen time in "Star Wars: Episode V -- The Empire Strikes Back", Glover is just such a strikingly nasty piece of work during the assault on the Rebels' Hoth base of operations that I find myself wishing Lucas had found more for him to do.

Star Wars Outlaws is the latest game set in a galaxy far, far away and the setting is at the peak of the franchise’s best era. If the Star Wars franchise is considered one of the greatest film series of all time in Hollywood, the credit goes to its creative mastermind George Lucas. The visionary director pioneered a sci-fi revolution with the epic space saga that spanned multiple decades to become a cult classic that will continue to remain evergreen for years to come.

While the franchise has seen many unforgettable films, there have been some prequels and sequels that have been preferred over others. But one particular film in the series which was specifically made for the holidays, was considered by Lucas himself as the franchise’s worst effort and one that he would want to erase from everyone’s memory including his own.

Since cinema is more than a hundred years old today, there naturally have been changes in the trends and culture as well as the lives of films and film stars in the industry, the most revolutionary in modern times being none other than Robert Downey Jr. with his successful run of the MCU.
But even before his fame and popularity soared in the stratosphere with Marvel Studios, the star wasn’t afraid of taking big risks in hopes of huge returns on them.

One of the most iconic roles of his life also happened to be a high-risk one, where the star went blackface for his 2008 comedy film Tropic Thunder. While this decision was indeed controversial, actor Billy Dee Williams feels like anyone should be able to express their creative ideas on screen, referring to another star who wore blackface in the past.

Billy Dee Williams is defending actors who want to wear blackface in their performances.
The Star Wars actor appeared on Bill Maher’s podcast and recalled Laurence Olivier’s performance in 1965’s Othello, where the actor wore blackface.
“When he did ‘Othello,’ I fell out laughing,” Williams said of Olivier on the Club Random podcast. “He stuck his ass out and walked around with his ass, you know, because Black people are supposed to have big asses.”
He continued, “I thought it was hysterical. I loved it. I love that kind of stuff.”
Maher mentioned that actors could not wear Blackface today, to which Williams said, “Why not? You should do it. If you’re an actor, you should do anything you want to do.”
The podcast’s host noted that Williams “lived in a period where you couldn’t play the parts you should’ve played.”

Billy Dee Williams said this week he believes actors should be allowed to do blackface, specifically praising Laurence Olivier’s performance in Othello.
“When he did Othello, I fell out laughing,” Williams said of Olivier on Sunday’s episode of Club Random With Bill Maher. In the 1965 film, Olivier wore blackface to play the film’s titular character. “He stuck his ass out and walked around because Black people are supposed to have big asses.”
Maher replied to Williams’ comment by saying, “Today, they would never let you do that.”
Williams then asked Maher, “Why?” to which Maher asked, in shock: “Blackface?”
“Why not? You should do it,” Williams said. “If you’re an actor, you should do anything you want to do.”
In response to his perspective, Maher pointed out that Williams, 87, “actually lived in a period where you couldn’t play the parts you should’ve played.”

Until recently, if one were asked to name some of the best films of preeminent 1970s filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, it would be easy to pick the big hits. “The Godfather” (1972), “The Godfather II” (1974) and “Apocalypse Now” (1979) are definitely his most iconic and respected films. You’d also be hard-pressed to find a person aged 25-50 who isn’t keenly aware of his adaption of S.E. Hinton’s mandatory high school assigned “The Outsiders” (1983) or his classics “Peggy Sue Got Married” (1986) and maybe even “Tucker: The Man and His Dream” (1988). Yet lately, Coppola’s “The Conversation” (1974) has entered the chat as a somewhat under the radar, low-key masterpiece from the filmmaker, and this year the film celebrates its 50th birthday.
After honing his directorial chops on films like the Roger Corman-produced horror film “Dementia 13” (1963) and fledgling films like “You’re a Big Boy Now” (1966), “Finian’s Rainbow” (1968) and “The Rain People...

Return to Oz, Disney’s 1985 dark take on Dorothy Gale (played by a then-9-year-old Fairuza Balk), shares its creative DNA with Star Wars. Not only that, George Lucas saved writer-director Walter Murch’s job after Disney fired Murch from the Oz shoot.
Lucas and Murch were old friends and collaborators, having met in the film department of the University of Southern California in the mid-1960s.
“My first memory of him was a shadowy figure behind me in the photograph developing room,” says Murch about Lucas on The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast It Happened in Hollywood. “I was trying unsuccessfully to develop one of the photographs that I had taken for an exercise, and there was this voice behind me that said, ‘You’re doing it wrong.’ And I turned around and I said, ‘Who is this guy?’ Of course, it turns out he was right. I was doing it wrong.

The game will feature an open world and will showcase the power of current-gen systems giving the players a more in-depth and detailed look at the various worlds of Star Wars.
Ubisoft has a traditional formula of how they usually develop their games but the recent gameplay shows a great deviation. It can be viewed as a positive change of pace within the studio for willingly experimenting with different ways of how to build an open world. Star Wars Outlaws is set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi which could explain the game’s fast-paced nature and combat.

"Oh, they've encased him in carbonite. He should be quite well protected, if he survived the freezing process, that is," quips C-3Po after Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is frozen alive in a slab of carbonite in "The Empire Strikes Back." It is a memorable scene, as it is preceded by Leia's (Carrie Fisher) declaration of love for Han, to which he replies with the characteristically suave, brilliantly ad-libbed "I know." The frozen Han is eventually handed over to Jabba the Hutt, whose lair is later infiltrated by Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and gang to rescue their friend from his frozen state in "Return of the Jedi."
This is not the only instance of a person being carbon-frozen in the "Star Wars" universe. Although the process was widely used to encase and preserve transport materials (such as gaseous substances), it was often utilized to transfer sentient beings. Even Anakin Skywalker...

“You have made one of the most brilliant science fiction films I’ve ever seen,” Steven Spielberg says to Denis Villeneuve. It’s fair to say he quite liked Dune: Part Two.
Steven Spielberg really liked Dune: Part Two. So much so that, in a podcast for the Directors Guild of America – simply called Director’s Cut – Spielberg said to its maker, Denis Villeneuve, “It’s an honour for me to sit here and talk to you.”
Spielberg – no slouch when it comes to making sci-fi films himself – then said, “You have made one of the most brilliant science fiction films I have ever seen.”
Comparing Villeneuve favourably to other filmmakers who are “builders of worlds,” including Ray Harryhausen, Stanley Kubrick and Ridley Scott, to name a few, Spielberg then went on to talk about Dune: Part Two’s sandworm taming sequence.
