Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.
Visit our Parents Guide Help to learn more

Sex & Nudity

No sex or nudity shown on screen, with the exception of a dessicated male corpse, which is shown unclothed very briefly.

There are several scenes of sexual harassment of a female character, including some strong sexual language. The threat of sexual violence is implied but never occurs.

Violence & Gore

Day of the Dead features fewer incidents of violence per minute of screen time than Dawn of the Dead, but the scenes of gore are much more intense and convincing than those of its predecessor. Zombies are shown viciously devouring people; intestines are ripped out; limbs are ripped off; zombies are dissected "alive"; a man's arm is amputated by machete and cauterized (to save his life); people and zombies are shot, all in gruesome detail.

Profanity

Day of the Dead contains marginally more profanity than any of the other films in the series, including numerous uses of sexual swear words ("fuck" and several of its derivatives), anatomical terms ("dick", "asshole", etc.), racial epithets ("jungle bunny"), and so forth.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking

Characters are seen smoking and drinking; a marijuana plant is briefly visible and a man is seen rolling a joint. A character is shown taking sleeping pills on several occasions.

The zombies are more terrifying than the sequels; they are stronger, more gruesome, more adaptable, and their attacks and "feasting" scenes are guaranteed to induce nightmares in children.
