for madhuri fans only?
kit-kat2 February 1999
I do not rate this film extremely highly, and would recommend it only really as a curiosity for Madhuri fans who wish to see her first film. She acquits herself well as the naive village girl who does not realise what marriage actually entails. However, the storyline is spread thinly and degenerates in to some kind of advice book on how to be an ideal, dutiful wife and daughter in law. All the problems in the marriage seem to be presented as the fault of the woman, which I find worrying and leads me to appreciate this film only really for the performances.

Abodh marked the debut of 17 year Madhuri Dixit in Hindi films. Madhuri is adorable who plays the role of naive, precocious, innocent girl who gets married at an early age. It's a family drama by Rajshri with music by Ravindra Jain. This is also Tapal Pauls debut in Hindi. The acting and direction is good but we have seen better movies in this genre.

Good clean family film
malamal110 April 2000
Madhuri's introductory film, in which at the tender age of 19 she shines and shows promise even then of her magnitude.

A good clean family film from the Rajshri camp, who have made a name for themselves by making films that can be viewed with enjoyment by the whole family.

Although this film was not directed by Sooraj Barjatya, who regularly delivers Superhit films for Rajshri(e.g Maine Pyaar Kiya,Hum Apke Hain Koun?,Hum Saath Saath Hain) it is along the same lines promoting moral/family values.

Madhuri excels in her role as a young naive bride who is full of life alongside Bengali actor Tapas Paul who plays her bemused husband, he is also very good in his role as are the supporting cast particularly the lady who plays the Grandmother.

All in all well worth watching, very funny at times, 'a film your mother will love'.
