An eleven year old boy believes that he is being possessed by a demon after he starts hearing voices in the house he and his family have moved into. He starts to receive messages on his computer screen, suffers inexplicable blisters on his feet and grazes on his elbows and knees, and dreams he is being burnt alive before waking up in a bed full of ashes. It turns out to be the ghost of a Victorian chimney sweep, but that doesn't stop a group of his school friends wanting to drive a stake through his heart in this British film produced by the Children's Film Unit, which made films aimed at young audiences and explains the presence of Susannah York (who was a patron) as a psychiatrist the boy confides in. Featuring a scripture teacher who is interested in the occult, a classroom scene where the kids discuss renting horror, sex films and devil worship, it's quite strong stuff for a movie aimed at kids, but ultimately it's pretty lame and will only appeal to those interested in 80's kitsch.
