Sex & Nudity

  • A young woman wakes up nude and gets up from under the sheets. She twirls around with one of her breasts and her buttocks exposed. She later runs on top of an aqueduct in a tank top and panties before leaping into the sea for a swim.
  • In some shots, groups of naked children can be seen playing in rivers. Seen from a distance with hardly any noticeable details.
  • Izu and Marin kiss a few times.
  • A soldier attempts to escort a man to see the king of his nation but abandons him halfway, entering a building with a random woman (possibly a prostitute) before she closes the front door. Sex is implied.
  • A young woman lies in a bed, wearing a negligee, before a young man climbs in with her. Nothing else is shown.

Violence & Gore

  • A soldier is instructed to test fire a cannon. He puts in too much powder, causing an explosion that presumably kills him (offscreen). This leads to chaos for a few moments among the other soldiers. One of them even fires into the sky, causing some birds to drop dead.
  • Brief war violence, some of it graphic. Blood is frequently shown onscreen. Characters are shot with bullets or arrows and some die in explosions.
  • A pilot is shot in the head with an arrow. There's a close-up shot of his face as the blood from the wound begins to drip across it.

Profanity

  • Marie can be heard saying "Oh my god!"

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • During a party, Izu and a female companion are seen smoking from a pipe. A bong is next to them. It's unclear of it's filled with hashish or some other kind of drug.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Early on in the film, a man steals a key to open a giant gate that prevents the sea from sinking a city. A lot of seawater floods into the city and another man races to close the gate, nearly being swept away in the process.
  • Lord Cail is a little creepy in appearance. He's a tall man draped in black and speaking with a monotonous voice.
  • The whole film has a sombre and melancholic tone. It maintains a tragic story with major and minor characters dying by the end credits. The ending is bittersweet and might bring some people to tears.

Spoilers

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Prince Jill and his father get into a heated argument regarding the war. The king brandishes his sword and tries to stab Jill but they end up grappling. The prince then grabs the sword and points it toward the king who accidentally steps into it before collapsing.
  • A murder-suicide: Princess Ahnas and Prince Jill realise they can't go back to how things were before the war. While they embrace, Ahnas shoots Jill in the chest before shooting herself in the head (the camera cuts away before she pulls the trigger).
  • Izu destroys the kingdom of Isha by flooding it when he opens the sea gate. He later comes back to the city and is guilt-ridden when he sees it submerged beneath the sea. It's implied that most of its citizens have likely drowned.
  • The Valley of Windaria is caught up in the fighting between Isha and Paro. The land is destroyed and left desolate, and all of its citizens have likely been killed (with the exception of Druid). Marin refuses to go and dies when a cannonball blows up her house. Her spirit has an emotional final reunion with Izu before leaving for the afterlife.
  • Druid comes to the realisation that she won't be reunited with her lover, a man who failed to return to her. It's confirmed that he's been dead for years, causing her to turn to stone out of grief. This leaves Izu as the sole survivor of the ruined Valley of Windaria.
