Hey everyone! We have one last batch of horror and sci-fi home media releases headed our way before the end of the month, and this week’s offerings are massive, with well over 20 titles coming out on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD this Tuesday alone.
One of my favorite creature features ever is getting some love in HD finally, with Scream Factory’s 4K release of Lewis Teague’s Alligator (and its sequel is headed to Blu-ray this week as well), and the horror comedy Dead Heat is also getting a 4K upgrade. For all you giallo fans out there, Forgotten Gialli: Volume 3 is being released tomorrow and features three more Italian classics genre fans are going to want to own, and Severin Films is keeping busy with a ton of titles this week too: Bloody Pit of Horror, Black Candles, Night of the Demon, and The Halfway House.

Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are both reportedly in talks to star in the second season of HBO’s Emmy-nominated series True Detective.
Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch In 'True Detective'
According to reports, HBO has offered Farrell and Kitsch deals to join True Detective as two of next season’s main stars. The actors are not thought to have accepted their respective deals yet, but are believed to be likely additions to the cast, according to The Wrap.
Earlier this week, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo joked that they’d be using puppets in place of actors for this season of True Detective at the Television Critics Assosciation press tour in Beverly Hills. Lombardo went on to reveal that the cast for the sophomore season will have names to rival that of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson – though seeking out big names wasn’t HBO's biggest priority.

Actually, these photos and preview of next week's Episode 2.06 of "Hannibal," entitled "Futamono," don't show much, but NBC's synopsis reveals something rather spoilery. So skim through the text if you want to avoid it and focus on the eye candy.

Jack (Laurence Fishburne) and the team race against time to catch the Ripper while he’s still on his killing spree. When Will (Hugh Dancy) suggests the possibility that the Ripper is filling his pantry with the victims’ organs, Jack crashes Hannibal Lecter’s (Mads Mikkelsen) dinner party to collect evidence and test the meat for human DNA.

Rust Cohle and Marty Hart finally get their man, and almost lose their lives, in the season finale of HBO’s True Detective, “Form and Void.”
The episode started with our serial murderer, Errol Childress (Glenn Fleshler), the man with the burn scars on his jaw. Errol’s house is a mess, packed with old papers, VHS tapes and creepy, half broken dolls. Dirty laundry, old clothes and sheets are strewn about the house. Errol’s garage is equally terrifying. He stands, shirtless, in front of a presumably dead body attracting flies. Errol’s back is covered in scars, and the walls are covered in red writing. He talks to the corpse for a moment, and then leaves, saying “Bye, Daddy,” and goes inside the main house to do a freakishly good Cary Grant impression and hook up with his disabled girlfriend (who is most likely a distant relative of...

Well, "Hannibal" fans, it's now or never to have your voices heard if you want NBC to renew the show as in overnight results, last night's ep tied the series low with a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating, down 9 percent from last week’s 1.1. Can Eddie Izzard's return in Episode 1.11, "Rôti," help save it?
Yeah, things don't look good for Hannibal and Will, but you never know. If enough of us make enough noise, NBC could possibly keep it on the schedule. If not, there's always Amazon or possibly another savior waiting in the wings. I mean, where else are we gonna learn all these cool new cooking terms? (To save you time, we looked up "rôti," and per Wikipedia, it's a (generally) South Asian bread made from stoneground wholemeal flour, traditionally known as atta flour, that originated and is consumed in Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.)

Easily the section that this journalist feels the most at home with, this year’s Vanguard section (programmed by such folk, among others Scandi-discoverer Steve Gravestock, Asian fare specialist Giovanni Fulvi and Latin Europe/American know it all Diana Sanchez) includes the highly anticipated first time offerings from gender-bender singer Peaches (Peaches Does Herself Peaches), Mexico’s Juan Carlos Medina (Painless) and Ben Drew (iLL Manors) along with auteurs we appreciate in Jesper Ganslandt (see pic above of Venice preemed Blondie), Soi Cheang (Motorway) and Peter Strickland (Berberian Sound Studio) along with the English language remake of Pusher and Adrian Garcia Bogliano who comes to Tiff packing a pair of items with The ABCs of Death and in this section, Here Comes the Devil. One of my favourite UK distributors, ranking up there with Arrow Video and Shameless, are 88 Films. The company, whilst relatively new to the UK scene, have hit the ground running – releasing a handful of fantastic 80s horror flicks to DVD, including: Tourist Trap, Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-a-Rama and The Pit and the Pendulum.
Well now the good folks at 88 Films have announced their next batch of Full Moon titles set for DVD (and also Blu-Ray, yes!) in July and August. Streeting on July 30th is The Dead Want Women and following on August 20th is the original Puppet Master movie – and not only is it being released on DVD it’s also coming on Blu-ray too!

Todd Howard gave the opening keynote at the Dice 2012 summit in Las Vegas entitled "Why We Create, Why We Play," which proved to be a highly entertaining speech with an equally hilarious PowerPoint presentation. Todd has been with Bethesda for 18 years, starting in 1984. When he joined the company, Terminator Rampage had just come out. E3 didn't even exist yet, and according to Howard, "We had CES, but the video games were in a big tent outside with the porn." Look how far we've come since then.
To put things in perspective, he noted that Doom came out right around the same time he was joining Bethesda. Terminator: Future Shock first game he worked on, which was promptly one-upped by id. "I've worked on a few games since then, and we bought id a few years ago. So..."

Blizzard responds to player feedback from the beta with a series of updates and revisions to the wildly anticipated RPG.
I think it's fair to say that Blizzard's "release it when it's done" mantra in lieu of hard release dates isn't a feint for any kind of waffling on the part of the developer: it's usually clear that they're still in the guts of whatever game they're building at the time, moving things around and building an arguably better product. And so it goes with Diablo III which is maybe-probably coming out sometime this year, but Blizzard has some additional touches on the game after hearing from players who took part in the extended beta.
In a post over at the game's blog, lead designer Jay Wilson documents some of the many changes players can expect to see (and why the changes were made) including modifications to how scavenging works...

New Batman 3 movie photo features Bane football field explosion killing spree. We recently extracted a new angle, screen cap, photo of the amazing football field, explosion, scene in the upcoming "Dark Knight Rises." As you can see, it kills off all the players except Hines Ward, who runs in to score a touchdown, along with a few more minutes of Life as the scene was quite disastrous. The movie stars: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, and Juno Temple. In the flick, the great Batman will be called back into action when his most formidable opponent Bane arrives in Gotham City, and starts messing up shit. He's seen taking out a whole bunch of men on a plane, beating the crap out of Bruce Wayne, and just wreaking all kinds of havoc in general. Batman will have one hell...

Joel D. Wynkoop is one of the hardest working actors in the indie horror world, having appeared in over 50 films. He is the John Carradine of horror films. Towards the beginning of the decade, he experienced a resurgence in film work and racked up one credit after another. The 80's and 90's saw him working infrequently, though one of his more well known films is Truth or Dare: Screaming For Sanity. I had the chance to ask him a few questions about his career. Here is what he had to say.

To kick start our Faces Of Indie Horror Month, I thought we would start out with an interview with director Tim Ritter ( Offical Site ) of Truth or Dare. His film, Truth or Dare, changed the entire landscape of modern indie horror filmmaking forever so it is only fitting that Mr. Ritter gets the first spot in our interview chair. Here's what he had to say:
Just in case we have any horror fans that are unfamiliar with Tim Ritter, who is he and what is he all about?
I’m just a horror fan who also loves to contribute something to the genre when I can muster up the inspiration and energy. My biggest childhood influences are Jaws and Carpenter’s Halloween. I’ve made over a dozen underground movies over the past twenty-six years (including the Truth Or Dare? trilogy, Killing Spree, and Creep) and written a few books...

It’s that time of year again, kids. Dread Central’s 2010 Horror at the Oscars coverage. Horror was indeed present this year and in black-tie. While Roger Corman and Lauren Bacall were honored a few months back at the Governor’s Award Ceremony, it was an unexpected delight to see Corman, recipient of the lifetime achievement Oscar, enjoy a standing ovation on national television.
I was, however, very disappointed that neither of them were allowed to speak. Roger Corman’s contributions to modern cinema are too vast for him to just stand up and wave. James Cameron was one of many Corman acolytes present, and his nomination speaks to Corman’s tremendous legacy. On the Terminator DVD Cameron mentions, "I trained at the Roger Corman Film School.” Jonathan Demme, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola, among many others, were also former students.

For the unaware, www.horrorcore.com is one of the largest outlets of the horrorcore/wicked shit musical genres the online market has to offer. For nearly a decade the site has played host to some of the most promising horrorcore veterans and prospects alike. Horrorcore powerhouses such as Mars, Menacide, Psycho Jesus, Kid Crusher, Q-Strange, and Insane Poetry have all been known to frequent the website, as well as quite a few of those future shiners like J.Hexx, bOb e. NiTe, and CrAkD (to name a few).
Well, back in 2003, the aforementioned Menacide launched what would become an annual horrorcore.com tradition; each Halloween a collection of the best holiday themed music the site has to offer would be compiled into one mass collection and released under the Devilz Nite moniker. Over the years some excellent work has graced the Devilz Nite compilations; terrific appearances from the likes of Sinister X,...
