Bobby spends the night at Helen's. While they are in bed, someone calls Helen and leaves a message on her machine. It's the police telling her they're going to bust someone, which Bobby overhears. And the person who's going to be busted is one of his clients. He tells Eugene who tells him that he's duty bound to tell the client. He tells the client and because of that they were ready for the police and some of them were killed. Helen says that Bobby was the one who told about the bust. So Bobby is arrested. Initially he was charged with something minor but later they decided to charge him with murder. So with Eugene as his counsel, they decide to let the judge decide if he's guilty.

Ellenor and Lindsay represent a porn star accused of choking her co-star husband to death during a bondage scene. Rebecca's capacity as an eye-witness is called into question, when her identification at the line-up might get suppressed. Hellen is stunned when she figures out the true nature of Bobby and Lindsay's relationship.

Things get even worse when the case goes before a very respected judge, who dies unexpectedly, just after causing a horrible mix-up. Ellenor herself defends a long-time client, accused of purse-snatching, only to be charged under an obscure federal law, and is faced with 20 years in jail. Meanwhile, Rebecca testifies as an eye witness in a murder trial, and faces a vigorous cross by the defense attorney.

Hellen takes on the case, determined to finally get Joey, and Bobby tries to suppress his previous crime from evidence. Ellenor defends purse snatcher Warren Cruikshank, charged with affecting tourism and faced with 20 years in jail. Lindsay once again takes on her former Professor, Anderson Pearson, but this time instead of making a settlement offer, he makes her a job offer.

Hellen gets stuck with a vehicular manslaughter case, of a rich man who hit a homeless man in the street, and sped away. Rebecca is about to get an award for her actions regarding animal rights, but finds out the award might get taken away, after she kills a rat in the office. Eugene defends a gang member who accidentally killed his friend during a gang initiation. Finally, Lindsay drops a bomb during a staff meeting, demanding equity in the firm.

Tensions at the firm are still high, thanks to Lindsey's demand to get equity, and to the revelation about her relationship with Bobby. Meanwhile, Rebecca gets into a car accident, which turns out to be staged by an insurance fraud ring, and Ellinor represents a scientist trying to save her ape from being killed by a science lab.

Two old cases, both ending with grave miscarriages of justice, are reawakened - when Helen makes an illegal deal with a wrongly convicted man, in order to get a murderer who managed to escape punishment.
