While directors like Wes Anderson may not be incredibly mainstream in their appeal, there’s no denying that they bring something unique to the medium. Anderson’s visual style is iconic and distinctly his own, and the writing dry, clever, and memorable. In an era of blockbusters and superhero films, his movies are a breath of fresh air to those in search of something different.
If you can believe it, it’s already been two years since Anderson has come out with a movie. 2014 saw the release of Grand Budapest Hotel, a film that went on to win four of the nine Oscars for which it was nominated, making it his most decorated film of his career. Hardcore fans of his work are always looking forward to whatever the filmmaker is working on next, but given the performance of his last piece, there is a...

Mad Men is one of the most celebrated programs in television history and helped to refine AMC as a network dedicated to quality scripted storytelling. Unlike other much-anticipated TV returns this year, such as HBO’s Game of Thrones, fans of the series have little to chew on. Without much in the way of clips, ads or interviews with the cast, most of what will transpire at the office of Sterling Cooper & Partners is a mystery to viewers.
That insistence to avoid spoilers is closely tied to the tight-lipped sensibility of the show’s creator, Matthew Weiner. Weiner first broke through as a writer on Becker and received two Emmy nominations for his work on the last three seasons of The Sopranos. His work on the HBO show, which became a television milestone before the age of the “spoiler alert,” made him interested in staying mum on what happens on Mad Men,...

Today, the Independent Games Festival announced that it had renewed a deal with Valve to fast track Steam releases for all Igf 2014 finalists.
Every year, hundreds (thousands?) of indie developers submit their prototypes, demos, half-cocked alpha builds, and games to the Independent Games Festival to compete in a juried selection. Categories include Excellence in Visual Arts, Audio, Design, and Narrative, as well as Technical Excellence, Audience Award, Best Student Game, and the Nuovo Award.
Eventually, a group of finalists in each category is decided, and the winners are announced each year during the Game Developer's Conference.
Here's where Valve comes in. Thanks to this new agreement, all Igf finalists, in every category, get a direct line to negotiate a Steam release -- as opposed to having to find a publisher or navigate the soupy morass of the Greenlight system.

"Malbolgia" is kind of ten-dollar word, but it comes to English courtesy of poet and consumate Florentine Dante Alighieri.
In the first part of his Divine Comedy, the "Inferno," Dante sketches out the various levels of hell and describes which types of sinners, evil-doers, and malefactors go where. The eighth circle is called the Malebolge, a series a deep, dark trenches called malebolgia, in Italian.
This is relevant because Belgian indie developer Dascu Maru just released a trailer for a cel-shaded, third-person nightmare machine called "Malebolgia." It's not gory or disturbing or gruesome, but it is unrelenting in its textureless, low-poly aesthetic, its shadows, and its Gregorian chanting.
The chanting is what really does it for me: reverberating echoes of exorcisms, of eldritch succubi preying on weak human flesh, of the Inquisition.
According to the video's description -- Dascu doesn't seem to have much an online presence,...

Perviously on Mad Men: Don may or may not have returned to his old ways, Roger may or may not have had an terrifying realization about his life and pursuits, Peggy may or may not have gone to greater pastures, Pete may or may not have had gained some emotional maturity, Megan may or may not be the partner Don needs going forward, and Joan may or may not have finally gained the respect she deserves… suffice to say a lot was left hanging by last season’s end. This is Mad Men we’re talking about, after all, the only thing cloudier than the future is the cigarette smoke. However, there were certainties: Lane had a bad year, Betty is not taking her role as the ex-wife well (Ok, I’ll be the first to link to it), Sally is having an ‘interesting’ adolescence, and...

Now that the pitch perfect "Mad Men" Season 6 premiere has aired, so many questions have been answered.
No, Don hasn't been faithful to Megan. Yes, Peggy is kicking ass at her new job. No, the agency hasn't dropped any part of its Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce name. Yes, Betty is still trying to "reduce."
But so many other questions have been introduced.
Showrunner Matthew Weiner has commented that this season is about the last line Dr. Arnold Rosen (Brian Markinson) says to Don: "People will do anything to alleviate their anxiety." In the spirit of that cryptic theme, we're going to break down each episode to track the happiness of key characters over the course of the season.
The "Mad Men" happiness index, week one:
1) Megan: Everything appears to be working out for young Mrs. Draper. She was momentarily concerned that the soap opera she's featured on was minimizing her...

The “Death Race” movies are what you would call forgettable. The franchise started with the Roger Corman-produced 1975 film “Death Race 2000″, then was rebooted in 2008 by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Jason Statham. The remake was followed up in 2010 with “Death Race 2″, a prequel that explored the origins of Frankenstein, a character briefly seen in the early parts of Anderson’s movie. Roel Reine, who directed that movie, returns for the sequel to the prequel, 2012′s “Death Race 3: Inferno”, which picks up where the last film left off. Or at least, I think it does. Like I said, the “Death Race” movies are nothing if not very forgettable genre affairs. You like them enough while you’re watching them, but once the credits roll, you’d be hardpressed to recall the plot. Having said that, I do believe that “Inferno” picks up where “Death Race 2″ left off,...
