Actors on tour
milton-freddy28 December 2013
Edward Fleming had his late directorial debut with this genuinely touching film about a group of traveling theater players on tour in the province giving performances, the countryside audience do not fully appreciate. The distance between high drama ambitions and more mundane comedy like preferences is classic among performers, and on top of this you have a number of inevitable conflicts between egocentric actors some of which are putting on airs. However we do not laugh out loud over this supposed comedy, in fact there is a great deal of compassion towards these quaint characters apparently living in a world of their own. As in many other cases, the life on stage becomes the important existence for the actors and reality a mere irritating circumstance. The director before making this film aged 46 had himself a past as an actor on tour in the province. The sad box office reality probably was a contributing part to the bankruptcy of the small Novaris film company, but the film is still a modest masterpiece.
