Photographed in CinemaScope and very pleasing Technicolor, this Greek musical comedy offers the viewer some amusing jokes and interesting situations, but is paced rather slowly. Most of the film is taken up with a series of extremely long dialogue exchanges, inexpensively photographed in single takes. However, this movie is a good one to come late for. All the musical numbers occur towards or in the final reel, each one more lavish than its predecessor. The costumes are absolutely terrific and there is an outstanding use of the split screen whenever Martha Karayianni (I hope I'm transcribing these letters correctly -- my proficiency is in Ancient Greek rather than modern Greek) is seen, differently costumed, in four separate panels. In fact, all the players labor with an infectious enthusiasm, although all the performances are rather theatrical and over-emphatic.
