No sound of the men on the chain gang....
dbdumonteil13 June 2009
They do not do movies like this today and I'd add " fortunately"."Le Bagnard" tells the story of a doctor who gambles his money away and is so short of the readies that the bailiff is knocking at his door...And one of his patients has just died from a heart attack ..after a morphine injection...and his body is hidden in a cupboard in the office. That's just the beginning. The rest is simply implausible,as Dr Geronimo (sic)is sent to a penal colony and will finally redeem his soul .

A voice over ,as if it were not enough, tries to make us care for the poor man's fate ,preaches and finally raises his hat to a sinner who showed,in spite of the quirks of fate, great moral fiber.

The most extraordinary thing in this sanctimonious tale is that there're no scenes of the chain gang. .Perhaps these scenes were filmed then banned by the censorship ,not to frighten French people:it is not pleasant to know how you treat men in Guyanne, across the sea.

Which does not matter anymore anyway.

Like this?try these.....
