A comedy drama you won't remember
Insane_Man12 March 2019
To watch old '70s '80s '90s bollywood movies, is one of my hobbies. In this process last night I watched this one. Not a bad movie yet rather some good moments make you laugh and the other positives are '80s nature, people, styles, roads, cities. Otherwise not a movie you will discuss with anyone. Utpal Dutta is a true legend and best in every single movie. Kolahpuri is also did her best. Raj Babbar can't shine with his average acting. Too many songs, too long songs as well. The director is in hurry, I felt somewhere in the movie. Not a typical movies of Basu Chaterjee, one of the best directors.

Utpal Dutt lifts this movie up!

To be frank, for me the reason to watch this movie was Utpal Dutt. He is just superb in every scene and he is just treat to watch.

The movie is about a house owner Kundanlal(Utpal Dutt) wants to get his house but the tenants Laxmi(Vidya Sinha) and Jaya(Padmini Kohlapuri) refuses to vacate the house. Anil (Raj Babbar) is in love with Jaya and is a confused person, but a simple one. He is always dominated by his father.

The movie starts off well but gets actually interesting when Kundanlal moves to the city to get his house back. There is humour and comedy with drama and all works fine. But the real star for me was Utpal Dutt who was just terrific in every scene.

There was nothing great in the story, its a simple story but the execution was very good. Basu Chatterjee is known for making this kind of movie and he excels in this one too. Characters looks pretty convincing and story looks so natural.

Performance is also the key for this movie. Raj Babbar is okay but surely not comfortable in the comic scenes but does a good job. Padmini Kohlapuri is pretty convincing as Jaya Abhyankar.

But the star of the movie was undoubtedly Utpal Dutt. Though it was not a full fledged role.

All in all a light hearted movie which is enjoyable.

Completely misses the mark

The only funny scene in the entire movie was when a prospective groom family make it very clear, they will marry any woman as long as they get the flat. This despite a stalwart like Utpal Dutt in the cast. Raj Babbar and Padmini Kolhapuri(PK) have zero chemistry. You miss the magic of Farooque Sheikh and Deepti Naval. PK is a big letdown and you wonder what does Raj Babar see in a bull headed plain looking girl. Comedy is definitely not Raj Babbar's forte.

Do yourself a favor and rewatch a Farooque Sheikh- Deepti Naval comedy and skip this boring movie.
