Directed by: Jake West
Written by: Dan Schaffer
Cast: Danny Dyer, Noel Clarke, Lee Ingleby, Christina Cole, Terry Stone, Stephen Grahm
I watched this film twice, hoping to find one brief moment where the filmmakers delivered more of a message than boys will be boys and women will be bitches. Yet, despite a few opportunities, that moment of salvation never arrived. While I don't think the film is misogynistic, it's obvious the script presents women as the cause of all men's problems.
The story focuses on Vince, devastated by his upcoming divorce, and his six friends who have chartered a bus to the village of Moodley. Not only do they have access to a house for the evening, but three quarters of the village's population are women. The guys hope a night of drinking and debauchery with not only cheer up Vince, but give them a break from the overbearing women in their lives.

[Fyi, this review will cover the documentary only, the rest of the package will be covered separately]
The early 1980's was a magical time for movie lovers. The dawn of home video. Everyone was scooping up $700 VCRs like their lives depended on it. Thousands upon thousands of films that you'd never had a chance to see either in a theater or at home on television were suddenly at one's fingertips. This was the same all around the world. In the UK, something happened in those early years that went on to define the tastes of a generation of horror fans, the advent of the Video Nasty.
I'll assume that most of you, my fair readers, are at least aware of the Video Nasty. Here is the briefest of descriptions, courtesy of Wikipedia:
"Video nasty" was a term coined in the United Kingdom in the 1980s that originally applied to a number of films distributed on video cassette that were criticized for their violent content by various religious organizations,...

Yesterday you may have read about the Horror Channel’s upcoming Director’s Night season, which kicks off Tonight with Jake West, director of Doghouse, Evil Aliens and Razor Blade Smile, who will be introducing his ‘splatstick’ horror-comedy Evil Aliens. In addition to that, Jake will introduce two of his favourite horror films, Monster Man and Society, all of which air tonight from 9pm.
Well thanks to the generous folks at the Horror Channel and, of course, Jake West, we got a chance to put some questions to him about his films past and present, as well as ask about his influences and some of his other favourite scary movies… and we got it all on video! Check it out (be aware this does containing some swearing and content that some may feel is Nsfw):

Back in the '60s it was George Romero's brilliant Night of the Living Dead that kick-started America's love affair with zombies... the mindless flesh-eater obsession then made its way across the ocean to Italy where scores of cheap and disturbing films were churned out with drooling enthusiasm. Now Britain has wrestled the crown away and has become the undisputed king of zombie flicks with such terrifying entries as 28 Days Later, and its sequel, 28 Weeks Later.
One could also argue that nobody does comedy better then the British. They are masters of pitch black humor that frequently borders on the downright nasty. In comparison, the written dialogue in a typical Brit-Com is far sharper and wittier than any Seth Rogan/Ben Stiller/Jim Carrey film combined. Apparently, in America, acting like a retard is what passes for humor.

Welcome to HorrorFest 2009. This movie's got a wee case of "try-too-hard," and after a while, it sort of runs out of steam, but there's still a lot of "Doghouse" that I enjoyed. I didn't care much for Jake West's first film, "Razor Blade Smile," and I haven't seen his second one, "Evil Aliens," but there's some good stuff in his new film, and it seems to me like he's come a long way in the last decade. Basically, "Doghouse" is a standard-issue zombie movie with a twist: for some reason, the virus only affects women. West uses that basic idea to set...
