A down-and-out's up-and-down.

A harmless pleasant comedy in which Raymond Souplex plays opposite Jane Sourza (with whom he spent most of his life but never married)

A wealthy aristocrat dies intestate .The notary discovers his only heir:it's a distant relative ,Sigismond De Chèvrefeuille aka La Hurlette ,a homeless tramp who lives on a building site and who has lunch on a bench with his friend Carmen. Both actors ,Souplex's and Sourza's parts will remind you of some of Michel Simon's and Arletty's ones;like the latter in "Hotel Du Nord" ,Carmen is totally uneducated and seems to have problems with the French vocabulary .Souplex is a happy-go-lucky surly bum .

Too bad that the "new life in luxury" of this crude couple is not fully exploited .

Directing is pretty static:Robert Vernay was better at adventures movies ("Le Comte De Monte Cristo" and its color remake);but some of the lines hit home .
