Creator Silvio de Abreu described this series as a "disaster telenovela" and credited inspiration in the Oklahoma bombing. He was also likely inspired by the then recent Palace 2 tower block collapse in São Paulo and the Osasco mall explosion in 1996.
The mall's fictional location is supposed to be at the same street Rede Globo was building a new head office at the time of production, the Luiz Carlos Berinni Avenue, Brooklyn, São Paulo.
Alejandro Sanz guest stars in one episode and performs his hit, also Shirlei's theme song, "Corazón Partío". He also famously performed it with actress Karina Barum on Domingão do Faustão (1989).
Danton Mello starred on this series and hosted Globo Ecologia (1990) at the same time and was in a helicopter crash while filming the latter show. He took three months off both programs.
The Tropical Towers mall sets were built over the fictional town of Greenwillve in A Indomada (1997) and later taken over by the fictional city of Bambuluá (2000).
