We're doing our part with all our heart, heigh-ho!
CuriosityKilledShawn26 June 2004
For fans of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs this'll be a truly bizarre experience to see them promoting war...bonds. This short was made with funding from the Canadian Government to encourage citizens to buy war dollars to help with Canada's involvement in WWII.

It begins with the dwarfs digging for diamonds in their mine singing an alternate, propaganda themed version of their heigh-ho song. After digging they take the diamonds to the local bank to buy war dollars. It's at this point that the hugely unsubtle propaganda kicks in. BUY WAR DOLLARS! DO YOUR PART! HELP US WIN THE WAR!

It's weird watching this. It's not something you'd get on the Disney channel. More like the History channel. And at four minutes it's not very long either.

"It ain't no trick to get rich quick . . . "

Warning: Spoilers
. . . sing the greedy title characters of 7 WISE DWARFS. Commissioned by Canada--slogan: "Buy more & more!"--this film puts one in mind of the future tar sands oil pipelines such as the one that turned Michigan's Kalamazoo River into a Super Fund clean-up site recently, as the diminutive miners show absolutely no regard for environmental remediation as they pick-ax multiple scars into Mother Earth. Such slipshod standards allowed much of Halifax to be leveled by a port explosion during World War I, with 1,782 Canadians killed and more than 9,000 wounded in a planetary record for a man-made explosion which was not eclipsed until the atomic bombing of Japan at the end of World War II. Viewers half expect some baby seal clubbers to make a guest appearance here.

Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho, it's off to buy war bonds we go
Coolguy-721 July 2000
In this short promoting Canadians to buy war bonds, the seven dwarves are working in their mine (animation is the same as in the movie). Later they go into town and stop at a building to buy war bonds, but Dopey goes into the bank and gets some war bonds. This was a pretty good short. I wish they'd show it on the Disney Channel, but maybe someday they will.

Mostly of interest to history buffs

This is a propaganda film made to bolster the Canadian war bond effort. As such, it's the sort of film you are highly unlikely to stumble upon on television.

Most of the film consists of footage taken directly from Disney's SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, though the latter portion uses some new animation and backgrounds. The reused portion shows the Dwarfs mining diamonds in their mine and singing. However, in a twist, the new portion shows them taking the diamonds to the local post office or bank and exchanging them for war bonds. It's all very patriotic and I am sure it worked very well at the time, though when seen today it's a bit tedious and mostly of interest to history buffs. The average person out there will probably be less impressed.

Not bad but also not particularly great either. Plus the transition from the old material and the new was not as seamless or well done as it should have been.

The 7 Dwarfs using their diamonds for use.
emasterslake18 May 2006
This short was made a few years after the premiere of Snow White.

Has the same dwarfs from the movie. And some of the animation was either reused or redone for the WW2 period it was in.

The dwarfs all got their share in diamonds and head to town.

There they trade there diamonds for war bonds.

As you might not know this is more of an advertisement than a short cartoon.

Cause back then there were a lot of companies that made cartoons to tell people to buy war bonds so that way we would be able to win the war eventually.

I really like this short cause I like the 7 Dwarfs a lot. This short proves they can do something beside looking after a princess or just mining diamonds all day.

You're able to see this short on the Disney Treasures Front Line Box Set.
