Worth seeing for the musical hall scenes
malcolmgsw14 January 2012
When i saw that this film was produced by John Baxter i decided to view it despite the fact that Frank Randle was in it.I don't think that i have ever laughed once at any gag in any Randle film i have ever seen. There was a routine about 20 minutes in which went on for about 10 minutes. After about 4 minutes i could stand no more and fast forwarded till the conclusion of the routine.I know when Baxter is the producer or director that it is likely that i will get to see some musical hall turns. After all he made 2 marvellous films in the 30s,"Music hall" and "say It with Flowers".then in the 40s he made a number of films with Flanagan & Allen. So we do get some turns in this film which is the only reason to view this film if you are not a fan of Frank Randle.

If you like Frank then this is one of his best in my honest opinion.. Every minute of this is marvellous not slapstick but honest.. it shows Frank in very different roles but all honest and completely derivative of the great Frank himself.. If you ever get a chance to buy any of Franks films then buy them you will never regret your purchases. Not side splitting but funny all the same.. Every one similar BUT different in a Lancashire sort of way. Frank was one of the best but maybe not the greatest of comedians but he was greatly appreciated by Collectors of his films That seem only to appear on Channle 4 or BBC 2 very very late at night when almost every one is asleep..what a great great shame
