It would have taken Douglas Sirk's genius.....

...to pull it off! This is melodrama in all its splendor or all its horror depending on whom you ask.

The two main characters are absolutely implausible .Anielle (Dubois) is a "modern" mother with a racy past:an alcoholic husband she left a long time ago and a beloved son who was conceived in a brothel.Doctor Soltier (Guiomar) is a saint of a doctor,so devoted to his work he runs after his desperate patient who has not showed up to his kidney dialysis .

Victim of a motorbike crash,Olivier,Anielle's son is dying in a hospital. His kidneys could save another life. But the doctor Soltier has to ask Anielle .As I said,Douglas Sirk might have turned this maudlin script into a flamboyant melodrama.Serge Korber's work is nothing but Harlequin Romance.
