December is overridden with terrific and exciting films that are worth adding to your likely growing “to watch” list. As end-of-year “best of” lists continue to roll in, along with critics’ awards already naming the year’s strongest contenders, it’s easy to lose certain titles to the shuffle. Luckily, it will be tough to misstep this month with plenty of upcoming films that offer a variety of genres and perspectives. From the Oscar-friendly titles that come in towards the end of the month to the latest movie in the long-running Godzilla franchise kickstarting it and films from master filmmakers crowding the middle, there’s no time for rest.

Director Yorgos Lanthimos’ “female Frankenstein” story Poor Things, which stars Emma Stone (Cruella), recently had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, and the reactions that came out of that screening said the movie is weird, hilarious, raunchy, and an awards contender. We’re now just one week away from the film’s December 8th theatrical release – and today we have some new promotional material to share! In the embed above you’ll find a featurette that asks, “Who is Bella Baxter?” That being the character Stone plays in the film. At the bottom of this article, we have a clip of Bella Baxter in action.
Scripted by Tony McNamara and based on a novel by Alasdair Gray (pick up a copy Here), Poor Things is described as being the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr.

I am an old man. I'm not particularly old for, like, the Earth as Craig Robinson might say, but I'm just about entering my grandpa era in terms of the online culture. My time writing about movies online began in the mid-'90s while I was still in high school and that gave me a front row seat to the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe empire, so I remember that era very well.
When that first MCU end credits scene hit in "Iron Man," it was a mind-blower for many reasons. We'd never seen anything like that in blockbuster filmmaking. The shared universe idea is commonplace now, but back then the idea that Marvel could be building up to an "Avengers" crossover movie was so exciting.
However, for readers of movie rumors, that reveal was ... well, it was spoiled for them by the website I wrote for, Ain't It Cool News.

Yorgos Lanthimos is baffled by the “prudishness” surrounding sex onscreen.
The “Poor Things” auteur said during a joint interview with actress-producer Emma Stone for The New York Times that it was “never an issue” to include the various intimate scenes in the film.
“Poor Things” is based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel about a woman (Stone) who drowns herself to escape her abusive husband and is later resurrected with the brain of her unborn child, and renamed Bella Baxter. During the course of coming of age, Bella discovers her sexual freedom and at one point works as a Parisienne prostitute. The film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival where IndieWire’s Ryan Lattanzio called the “brazenly weird sex comedy” an “instant classic” that was one of the “raunchiest” movies of the year.

Today, Variety published a feature about the ongoing troubles behind the scenes at Marvel Studios, and in addition to several major revelations about the issues involved with its new "Blade" film, potentially replacing Jonathan Majors' Kang with Doctor Doom, and even maybe reuniting the original Avengers squad, it reveals there have been four weeks of reshoots on this month's theatrical release, "The Marvels."
Variety says "The Marvels" reshoots were to "bring coherence to a tangled storyline." Tweaking things up to the last minute has always been the Marvel way (the studio famously added its post-credits scene to "The Avengers" after the film's world premiere), but four weeks of additional photography is longer than usual -- even for a Marvel film.
For years before Marvel Studios came along, if a movie underwent reshoots, the perception in the fan community (fair or not) was that the film in question must be in deep trouble,...

Just over half a year since its launch, upstart European sales company Feel Content is heading to the Cannes Film Market with a slate of six Spanish-language features from Spain and Latin America.
Feel Content is the joint endeavor of Geraldine Gonard, director of Spain’s Conecta Fiction co-production forum, and Luis Collar, a partner and CEO at The Circular Group, a diversified film company. At last year’s Ventana Sur the company made its public bow with a slate of four productions: Matías Meyer’s “Modern Loves,” “Karakol” from Argentina’s Saula Benavente, Gracia Querejeta’s “The Invisible” and Toni Bestard’s “Pullman.”
“We think there’s a clear gap to fill in Spain for one more international sales agency, given there aren’t many in the country. Those that are here can’t represent all the films coming onto the market,” Collar told Variety ahead of the Argentine market.

This probably isn’t the Upside Down that people were thinking of initially in regards to Stranger Things. For one thing, it’s a lot brighter and even cheerier in a way despite being shot in a desert scene, and the characters aren’t exactly the dour, depressed individuals that we’ve seen on the Netflix show so far. But the action short does kick off with an interesting premise since the man crawling along the sand at one point is obviously in distress and could probably use some help. Instead, he gets kicked Through the sand into the Upside Down world that was

Los Cabos — “The Twentieth Century,” Matthew Rankin’s crazed retelling of Canadian history, won the main Los Cabos Competition this Saturday, beating out a prestige lineup of some of the most notable festival standouts of the year.
The win at Los Cabos, whose competition is focused on movies from the U.S., Mexico and Canada, adds to “The Twentieth Century’s” Toronto Best Canadian First Feature prize for a feature made with high style, shot like 1940s melodrama, with a box-like Academy ratio.
Mexico Primero, a showcase of first or second-time Mexican features, was won by “The Dove and the Wolf,” the feature debut of Carlos Lenin, which world premiered at this year’s Locarno Film Festival in Filmmakers of the Present. A young couple love story, “The Dove and the Wolf” is distinguished by its context, a grimy small town assailed by cartel violence, and its unyielding use of...

They say I did something bad -- then why's it feel so good?
That line leads the chorus to “I Did Something Bad” off of Taylor Swift’s Reputation album, an endlessly listenable 15-song affair that careens back and forth between diary entries about dreamy Joe Alwyn to burn book-like drags of her enemies -- from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to Katy Perry, to her exes, and even herself for good measure.
For someone dogged for most of her career with accusations of playing the victim, Taylor spent a fair amount of 2017 exploring her dark side, and in particular seeming to embrace those snake emojis that slithered their way into her narrative after Kim’s infamous Snapchat story and killed “Old Taylor” once and for all.
With that in mind, here’s a list (in red, underlined) of six of Taylor’s shadiest moments of the year.

So now we have finished with all that big multi-title crossover malarkey, we can return to good old solid solo adventure fun. Well, not entirely solo as The Doctor has Bill of course, but you know what I mean. Comic book Bill only has a few appearances under her fashionable belt, and I’m still interested to see if she is portrayed as well as she comes across on the TV show. Or did, of course, these all take place prior to the end of the last series. This issue it’s Richard Dinnick’s turn up at bat, so let’s see how good his swing is.

Season 3 of Fargo has been sitting on simmer for a few weeks now, but it heated up to a full boil this week — and ah jeez, a main character wound up dead.
Ray is still fuming after Nikki’s savage beating at the hands of Yuri and Meemo. He grabs his gun, and they tail the two henchmen to an empty lot, where they spot V.M. Varga being ushered into a car. Nikki theorizes he’s the “head honcho,” and Ray’s ready to go after them, guns blazing.

There have been plenty of surprises on This Is Us. But none more so than Kevin’s shocking revelation that he was once married to his childhood sweetheart.

Jack and Rebecca might have been scared to death at the prospect of having triplets on the way, but they did pretty in the long run.
The conversation between Jabecca and the doctor on This Is Us Season 1 Episode 11 that exposed their new reality was very cute. Milo Ventimiglia somehow managed the perfect "is this guy crazy" laughter when the guy wondered what they'd think if he suggested they were having twins.
Their reactions to the truth just followed suit. It's hard to imagine an accidental pregnancy that resulted in twins, let alone triplets. But their laughter soon turned sour.
How quickly all of the excitement can turn to fear and anxiety.
It is a bit of a cautionary tale, though. No lease signing until you are certain about the number of children on the way. A six-story walk up wouldn't be advisable with three babies in strollers.

“BoJack Horseman” creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg is about midway through the making of a new season of his critically acclaimed comedy, but he also isn’t exactly sure how he feels about it.
“Let me ask you this about art,” he said to IndieWire. “This is something I really go back and forth on a lot, and in the show we kind of go back and forth with this a lot: Do you think art is good? You know what I mean? Are we in ‘Cabaret’ right now and we’re like, distracting ourselves?”
The question came during an open and honest conversation about Season 3 of the show, Bob-Waksberg’s personal reaction to America’s changing political climate and even a little bit about the in-progress Season 4.

Something bad happened on Christmas Eve.
For the Pearson family on This Is Us, Christmastime means coming together, but on Tuesday’s dramatic fall finale, they also experienced an unexpected tragedy. For much of the episode, the old family adage that “nothing bad ever happens on Christmas Eve” was repeated time and time again -- first by Rebecca (Mandy Moore), then by Randall (Sterling K. Warning: If you have not watched this week's episode of The Walking Dead, Do Not Read Any Further! For everyone else, get your irons ready and let's do this…
The last time we saw Carl on The Walking Dead, he was headed off on one of the Saviors' trucks with Jesus on a mission to exact his revenge on Negan, and in the latest episode, he meets the man face to face.
Sunday's episode, titled "Sing Me a Song," finally gave us a look at the Sanctuary through Carl's eyes -- ahem, eye -- and while Carl's vision isn't exactly 20/20, here are six important things we learned:
1. Carl's a bit of a badass… and even Negan thinks so
Carl made one heck of an entrance once finally inside the Sanctuary's gates, killing two of Negan's men from the back of his truck -- and though he was quickly outnumbered by the Saviors, he made quite...

The Pearson kids took a trip down memory lane on Tuesday’s This Is Us -- and one of them got much more than they expected.
Days after learning the truth about Rebecca and William’s secret on Thanksgiving, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) -- still reeling from his mom’s lifelong betrayal -- took a literal trip on “top-shelf mushrooms” at the cabin he spent much of his childhood in, hallucinating a conversation with his late father, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia).

Last Week’S Review: The Saviors Take Center Stage in ‘The Cell’
Whose Episode Is It?
We’re back at Alexandria, so there are plenty of familiar faces, with some focus given to Michonne, Rosita, and Spencer. But the star of the show, of course, is Rick. You’ll recall that Negan’s goal in “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” was to break Rick and ensure his obedience. As the Saviors’ “business relationship” with Alexandria begins, Negan is there to personally confirm that Rick is truly broken. It’s about as fun and exciting as it sounds.
Man Is the True Monster
I’ve made it clear that Negan’s smarmy shtick doesn’t work for me, and his arrival at the beginning of “Service” is almost self-parody. He walks up to Alexandria’s gate whistling a jaunty tune, then immediately sings, “Dun dun dun duuun!

It seems like there will be no shortage of Los Angeles-set features about musicians trying to follow their dreams this fall. Before La La Land arrives in December, we have Dreamland, another independent drama that seems a touch less romantic. Directed by Robert Schwartzman, it follows Johnny Simmons as a down-and-out pianist trying to make it work in the City of Angels.
Ahead of a release next week, the first trailer has now arrived for the film that premiered earlier this year at Tribeca. We’ve been impressed by Simmons in Scott Pilgrim, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, 21 Jump Street, and even Whiplash (the short), so hopefully a leading role suits him well here. Check out the trailer and soundtrack preview below for the film also starring Amy Landecker, Jason Schwartzman, Frankie Shaw, Noël Wells, Beverly D’Angelo, and Talia Shire.
Los Angeles musician Monty Fagan is going through a rough patch.

Indignation is the story of a complex young man that is beyond his years. Marcus, played by Logan Lerman, is dynamic in this role. When you experience the narrow views back in the 1950s, it’s difficult to imagine how different the world used to be having known only today’s socially acceptable views of tolerance in sexuality and religion.
Young Marcus attends university in Ohio. Having been raised Jewish, he finds religion and God an impossibility. Marcus is extremely intelligent and very much introverted. He meets the most extraordinary Olivia Hutten (Sarah Gadon) and has his first sexual encounter, quite unexpectedly. He’s scared, intrigued, and drawn to the completely troubled Olivia. Their chemistry is apparent and both actors play their roles beautifully.
Early on, Marcus ends up having trouble with his roommates at the dorm. He asks to be moved to another room and ultimately this leads to...

David’s Quick Take for the tl;dr Media Consumer:
Roman Polanski made a massively successful transition to Hollywood filmmaking in this iconic horror-thriller classic of the psychologically disorienting variety. All the elements at play come together with the kind of perfect synchronization that signals the beginning of a new era in cinema: Mia Farrow’s star-making performance as a naive young wife living through a worst nightmare scenario, a flawless gradual atmospheric transition from seeming everyday normalcy into deeply disturbing paranoia, unsettling pivots between charming oddball humor and creeping, continually intensifying dread, and a perfectly timed interjection of quotidian satanism as practiced by one’s next door neighbors, when the taboos were still intact and capable of delivering maximum shock value. Rosemary’s Baby opened up new territory for mass audiences to experience intense levels of anxiety that didn’t depend on directors resorting to jump scenes, gratuitous violence,...

Burying the Ex (2014)
Written by: Alan Trezza
Directed by: Joe Dante
Cast: Anton Yelchin (Max), Alexandra Daddario (Olivia), Ashley Greene (Evelyn), Oliver Cooper (Travis)
Breaking up is tough all the way around. Yeah right, usually of all the misery is one sided. The one who lowers the hammer of heartbreak and the other who is left to pick up the pieces. That’s usually the way it goes down, but not always. On occasion there are really, really nice guys who suffer through a bad relationship (sometimes an entire lifetime) because there just doesn’t seem to be a way out without sorrow, a feeling of betrayal, or an amped up display of crazy. Typically it’s a combo of all three.
