A soap opera
dbdumonteil3 December 2005
This is proof positive that even in the second half of the thirties when the French cinema was reaching peaks of brilliance, all that is still available today is not gold."Au soleil de Marseille" is an obsolete musical which cannot grab today's audience.Playing is mediocre -the only good actor is Charpin, but you'd better watch him in Pagnol's or Duvivier's works- ,the songs abysmal and the story inept: a soap factory where all the workers are very fond of football;when the cat is away, the mice will play :when the factory's owner goes away, they all take a train to Belgium to play a match.the plot thickens as the young lead who is in love with his boss's daughter meets a Belgian chick.

Dreadful stuff.
