Nicole Scherzinger is engaged, and she has the TV show X Factor: Celebrity to thank for introducing her to her now-fiancé, Thom Evans. These days, Scherzinger is enjoying the wedding planning process, and it all started when she happened to judge a spinoff of X Factor, known as X Factor: Celebrity, which saw celebs compete instead of ordinary, undiscovered people. And when Scottish rugby player Thom Evans joined the show, Scherzinger’s life changed pretty quickly.

Back in 2019, Thom Evans appeared as a contestant on the X Factor spinoff show, which Scherzinger was judging. Evans made it all the way to the show’s semi-final round with his trio, known as Try Hard, which means he and Scherzinger got to spend a decent amount of time together.

George Michael’s death on Christmas Day was related to his renewed used of hard drugs, a childhood friend said Tuesday. “Hard drugs had been back in his life but it wasn’t heroin,” Andros Georgiou told the BBC’s “Victoria Derbyshire” show. When pushed for more details, he said that the singer was taking “cocaine … and crack was one of his favorite drugs.” When asked by host Victoria Derbyshire what he meant when he said Michael’s death was an accident, Georgiou said: “He took too much of something, mixed with antidepressants and other drugs that he was on,...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What is the best new TV family of 2016?
Joyce Eng (@joyceeng61), TVGuide.com
I feel like the Pearsons are going to dominate this, but the correct answer is the Dimeos. “Speechless” is one of the fall’s best new shows that could’ve easily succumbed to a mawkish tone with its premise centered on a child with cerebral palsy. But like so many of ABC’s sharp family comedies, it toes the line of being sincere without being saccharine, witty without being desperate and inclusive without being morally superior, with finely etched characters, led by Minnie Driver’s ferocious mama bear, who are not afraid to get dark and unlikable.

During yesterdays’ Dying Is Easy, Comedy Is Hard panel at the Produced by New York conference, Chris Rock offered praise for Donald Glover’s “Atlanta.” He’s far from alone in his adulation, as the FX series has won raves throughout its ongoing first season, though he did offer one unique insight: When he was Glover’s age, he wouldn’t have been able to get the show made. “The world just wasn’t set up for that,” he said. “‘Atlanta’ is so good.”

X-Files star Gillian Anderson is the latest actress to join the cast of Starz’ highly anticipated series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods.
Variety reports that Anderson will take on the role of the character Media, “the mouthpiece for the New Gods, functioning as their public face and sales representative, by taking the form of various iconic celebrities.” The report goes on to explain that “she lives off the attention and worship that people give to screens — to their laptops, their TVs, to their iPhones in their hands while they watch their TVs. Ever the perky spokesperson, and always in control, she spins stories in whatever direction best suits her.”
Anderson is going to be awesome in this role! It’s definitely inspired casting! The series will reunite her with producer Bryan Fuller, who most recently worked with her on NBC’s Hannibal.

The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

Most mainstream readers had been waiting a long time for the two books coming out in 2013. Early the year before, news leaked that publisher Hard Case Crime would release a new book called Joyland as a paperback original, just in time for summer. Anticipation was cautiously high; reviews of King’s last book with the publisher, 2005’s The Colorado Kid, were mixed. Readers seemed far more eager for a book King announced way back in 2009; Doctor Sleep, King’s long-gestating sequel to 1977’s The Shining, was due to arrive in late fall. But beyond these splashy new novels, King was as busy as usual, writing and publishing at a frantic (some might say lunatic) pace. King launched the year doing something that was becoming a trend: unearthing long-buried work from the past and bringing it into the light. “The Glass Floor” first appeared in the sixth issue of Robert A.

This Monday, A&E's sun and sin-soaked The Glades kicks off its fourth season and star Jordan Wall (who plays the overzealous Daniel Green) assembled an exclusive playlist for ETonline!
Although the show's setting plays host to a whole lotta murders, in reality, we still dream of visiting Florida's Glades!
Jordan Wall's Gotta Getaway Playlist
1. When I Come Around - Green Day
Favorite song by my favorite band. It was the first music video I ever saw, really welcoming me into the whole MTV generation. The repetitive riff in the track is so simple, yet so intoxicating, reeling you right in within the opening seconds.
2. Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand - Primitive Radio Gods
The perfect blend of melody and lyric, which never fails to affect me on some level no matter how many times I listen to it. It is the ultimate example of music and poetry being linked...

Welcome to Zap2it's "Arrested Development" Rewatch. Leading up to the release of Season 4, we'll be taking a look back at the 53 episodes that made "Ad" one of our most beloved TV comedies. Watch the first three seasons of "Arrested Development" on Netflix. Today we're covering the second episode of Season 1, "Top Banana," which premiered Nov. 9, 2003.
Plot: Michael tries to find his father's missing flight records, while George Michael tries to distance himself from his cousin Maeby. Both attempts fail, with the storage unit the records were in being burned to the ground and Michael giving Maeby a job in the Bluth frozen banana stand. That ends up going up in flames as well, and unfortunately for Michael and George Michael, there really was always money in the banana stand. Meanwhile, both Tobias and Lindsay audition for a fire sale commercial, though neither ends up answering when they get their call backs.

The life of the gangster isn’t as glamorous in the movies as it once was. Sure the title characters of The Public Enemy, Little Caesar, and Scarface all met horrific deaths before the final fade-outs, but their lives of excess must have looked pretty great for depression audiences. And then the Hayes Office, the studios’ censorship board, cracked down. In James Cagney’s last great crime epic White Heat, his Cody Jarrett is a vicious psychopath. And later with the classic Goodfellas and TV’s “The Sopranos”, mob life was shown as dangerous, dirty work. The easy cash is never really easy. And so it is with Killing Them Softly which re-teams star Brad Pitt with his The Assassination Of Jesse James director Andrew Dominik. Few films have been as gritty as this “simple” score that goes bad in a big, big way.

While watching Rock of Ages last weekend in preparation for the movie's press junket (Stay tuned for my video interviews with director Adam Shankman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough, Malin Akerman, and Diego Boneta!), I realized that the jukebox musical is here to say. It's the perfect 21st century genre, a mix of glorified nostalgia and unapologetic bombast. I can't say that I loved Mamma Mia, but I thought the sentiment was right: Recording artists with strong, distinct catalogs (with a particular penchant for narrative songs) should be exalted in stage spectacles. Rock of Ages' mullet-tacular musicianship just isn't my thing, and I say it's time we pick nine better options for the next big jukebox musical. Some of these choices may be unexpected, but I think you'll find they're worth a second look from Alan Menken.

Music can make an average ad great. So why, Robin Hicks asks, is music the last thing a creative thinks about when writing an ad?
My favourite TV ad of the year so far is the Let Yourself Go spot for Kangaroo Island.
When it didn’t win Mumbrella’s Ad of the Month for March (it came third) I felt aggrieved for the agency that made it. But less so a week later when it emerged that the agency had paid celebrities to tweet nice things about its work.
Let Yourself Go is a stunning spot with lots of pretty images. But it would probably have had a similar effect on me if I’d watched a blank screen for 60 seconds.
John Baker of Adelaide ad agency Kwp!, which made the ad, told me that the music (Rise by Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder) “is 50% of the communication”. For me,...

The year was 1992. Spike Lee’s Malcolm X was on the tip of everyone’s tongue in the neighborhood. Teens and children were listening to jazz inspired hip-hop from Tribe Called Quest’s second album, The Low End Theory. The Native Tongues were encouraging unity in their music. Wearing Africa Medallions became a trend in fashion, along with clothing that reflected African unity and education. Cross Colours proclaimed catch phrases like “Academic Hard Ware” and “Racism Hurts Everybody”, while sweatshirts marked African American College Alliance bolstered the youth’s interest in higher education. The word in the street was “spread love not war”. The winter season was just coming to a close in the first quarter of ‘92 and Malcolm X had yet to even open in the theaters.

It's kind of insane that we're about to start talking about next year's South by Southwest and it's still October. Just last week I reposted a video from this year's SXSW! But here we go: today SXSW announced their first round of film programming, a preliminary list of panels you'll be able to check out next March in Austin, Texas. Highlights include a conversation with "Drive" and "Contagion" composer Cliff Martinez, a chat about arts criticism in the age of Twitter, and the return of the legendary "Jeffrey Tambor Acting Workshop." My favorite panel title on the list? "The Evolution of the Douchebag in Modern Cinema." It's sort of hard for douchebags to evolve -- that's kind of what makes them douchebags -- but I think I know what they're getting at.
The full list of announced panels is below. And, hey, it's not too late to submit your feature...

Strangers Online Who doesn't love a good erotic thriller? When an erotic thriller is able to combine sophistication with sizzling sexuality and the star presence of its actors, they usually are able to score a home run. Some very good examples of this is Basic Instinct which made Sharon Stone a household name. Or how about Against All Odds which helped to turn Rachel Ward into a megastar? Breaking Glass Pictures which has been pioneers of late in the low budget horror and thriller world, picking up a slate of interesting titles, is getting ready to premier their latest title, Strangers Online, in Pasadena.
John Huckert’s erotic thriller “Strangers Online” will have its world theatrical premiere on June 24th. It will screen at the Laemmle Sunset 5 in West Hollywood and the Laemmle Playhouse 7 in Pasadena. The film, from the makers of the 90’s cult hit “Hard” follows an Internet...

Captain America: The First Avenger comes out next month. Not just “Captain America,” as everyone in the universe will refer to it for the rest of time (except for the occasional dad calling it “Flag Spider-Man”) but “Captain America: The First Avenger,” the latest of a mostly new breed of movies with unnecessarily cumbersome titles that no one will ever actually say. Sure, the lengthy titles sometimes help to distinguish between installments in a franchise, or slightly aid Google searchers, but there’s still something elementally strange about tens of millions of people going to see a movie without ever actually saying (or knowing) the official title of the film. Below, a list of 30 Movie Titles No One Has Ever Actually Said (Colon: Curse Of The Last Returning Title Sayer (Part 2) Movie): 1. Breaking Glass Pictures will release director John Huckert’s erotic thriller Strangers Online on DVD July 26th. The film, from the makers of the 90’s cult hit “Hard” follows an Internet talk show host whose newest intern turns out to be a dangerously obsessive fan.
Synopsis:
Hollis Parker hosts a nightly web show that brings together sexual misfits from across the World Wide Web. Haunted by the murder of his wife four years earlier, he throws himself into his work, fielding questions from adoring fans, exhibitionists and quirky fetishists – all via their web cams. Then, a new intern at the studio shows romantic interest in Hollis, and what begins as a seemingly innocent crush turns into an unhealthy obsession. Though his show usually keeps him at a comfortable distance from his audience, Hollis soon learns that his final show may end in bloody murder – broadcasted live to all his adoring fans.

Hereafter (Warner Bros.) Clint Eastwood’s spiritual thriller follows a trio of characters whose seemingly disparate paths converge: Matt Damon as a blue collar Joe who tries to fight against his psychic powers that see “the other side,” Cecile de France as a journalist who somehow survives the tsunami that crushed Indonesia, and a London schoolboy (Frankie and George McLaren) who seeks answers after losing his twin brother. Like all of Eastwood’s films, the narrative construction is tight as a drum, with solid work by all involved. That said, “solid” would have to be the operative word to describe the proceedings here, as well as “unremarkable” and “uninvolving” on an emotional level. Perhaps we expect too much when we see Clint’s name on a film these days, but that’s the flip side of being one of the best. Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

Another Saturday, another long list of horror movies on TV. Have you recovered from Friday's list yet? Do you have enough time to watch them all? And this list is only a fraction of what's fully available out there!
As usual, only those of note (as decided by me) are listed below, and the list is by no means exhaustive.
In addition, are you caught up on Camera Obscura yet? We have the first seven episodes in one spot including a neat little recap to help refresh your memory should you have forgotten the story so far, what with Episode 7 being released yesterday.
And if you are on Netflix, make sure to browse through The Foywonder's crazily Massive List of New Netflix Instant Streaming Horror Titles.
Don't forget to come back and tell us in the comments section below what you thought of Saturday's horror on TV offerings. Did you like this list?...

Another week in October, another bounty crop of horror DVDs and Blu-rays. This week we have home entertainment from recent theatrical releases of nightmares of the mind as well as re-releases of classic and campy horror, all with boatloads of extras.
Then there are other horror titles that are being re-released on Blu-ray or in packs for double dipping. On top of that, horror offerings from Asia, past seasons of TV shows, manga, novels, and even video games are all vying for our pocketbooks. And we still have four more weeks of October to go.
Next year October needs to begin in August.
Human Centipede: First Sequence
Directed by Tom Six
Human Centipede: First Sequence (review) was a sensation ever since its first mention. Stephen Colbert even talked about it at the 2010 Emmys Awards broadcast! The premise cannot be simpler. Two pretty American girls are on a road trip through Europe.

That's Hilarious! No Way! It's Offensive! Well, Actually It's Complicated
Everyone knows that two of the trickiest subjects to talk about in mixed company are religion and politics. But when it comes to what we obsess about cover on AfterElton.com, I'd actually say comedy might be one of the toughest to discuss (that and whether or not there should be a U.S. version of Torchwood).
All you have to do to see that is look at the comments on our last post about Family Guy which generated very heated discussion.
