incomprehensively forgotten
doc-zaius7 June 2002
This really good adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' novel is one of the forgotten jewels of french TV. Not only is the political and religious situation of 16th century France very well rendered, but the actors (and particularly the beautiful Karin Petersen, and Denis Manuel as Henri the third, one of France's most intriguing kings) seem really in touch with their characters and make the love story and the political plots around the throne either easy to dive in. If you like the mix of swashbuckling, romance and great historical background (the religion wars), this one is for you, no doubt.

I can't understand why it did not become such a great hit!

This is really great movie, or actually I saw it as a mini TV-series in Russia in the eighties. And I saw it only once, though I still can't forget it. It made a great impression. I was also really surprised to see it was filmed in 1971, you wouldn't say if you see it! Actors are great. Not only the leading man and leading lady, but all of them. Director made a great job! And I could never forget Michel Creton as Chicot - a witty and funny joker of the king. So proud, so clever, so noble and so tragic. They read the novel of Dumas really good and filmed it with respect and it was just great! I still hope to find it somewhere on VHS or DVD. Incredible that it is not known at all and all forgotten about!

Still cannot forget...

I saw this movie many years ago on Russian TV, but even now I recollect it quite well. It is a very faithful and talented adaptation of Dumas' novel with excellent actors, especially Nicolas Silberg as "le brave Bussy" is unforgettable. If only it was possible to buy this movie on VHS or DVD...

I love this movie

I saw this movie only once, in 1985 on TV, still when in USSR. About two decades have passed now, but I still remember this great adaptation from Dumas' famous novel (one of my favourites), and I was very surprised to see it was shot in 1971 - they did a great job, which I would very much like to see again and even buy (unfortunately, it is not available anywhere). Nicolas Silberg was great as Bussy, I would say very beautiful and convincing. And the spirit was very much Dumas' one!

What made-for-TV series should be...
dbdumonteil15 November 2006
All the users who wrote a comment on "la Dame de Montsoreau" are completely right:this is par excellence what good French miniseries should be .Alexandre Dumas is the best writer,as far as historical novels are concerned ,there are very earnest thespians (Nicolas Silberg,Michel Creton,François Maistre,Maria Meriko,Denis Manuel...) and a luminous heroine played by the beautiful Karin Petersen (who sadly committed suicide in the early eighties). When Bussy sees her for the first time, she seems like an apparition, like a mysterious unreal woman walking through the walls.

Dealing with the religious situation in France from the 16 th century,it is an absorbing yarn which is one of the French audience's cult series.
