"When I was in MI6, it wasn't enough for me - so what I did is reinvent the secret world and fill my own people with it." Very intriguing... Apple TV has unveiled the main official trailer for The Pigeon Tunnel, the latest documentary film made by the one-and-only Errol Morris. This will be premiering at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival this weekend, with stops at the Toronto and New York Film Festivals this fall before it's out for streaming on Apple TV+ in October. The doc spans six decades as the iconic British author John le Carré gives his final and most personal interview, interrupted with rare archival footage and other dramatic anecdotes. It is set against the stormy Cold War backdrop that extends into the present day. Le Carré passed away in 2020 at the age of 89. His novels which have been adapted for film or TV include The Looking Glass War...

The Pigeon Tunnel, from Apple Original Films and The Ink Factory (The Night Manager), is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on October 20.
Following a career in Britain’s MI5 and MI6 in the 1950s and ‘60s, Cornwell became the mega-bestselling author of The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Night Manager and The Constant Gardener, all of which were successfully adapted by Hollywood. “I’m the only Oscar nominee who sells yogurt [Activia] that makes you shit,” cracked Jamie Lee Curtis during a career-retrospective conversation with film historian Leonard Maltin on Saturday night at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara. The newly minted best supporting actress Oscar nominee for Everything Everywhere All at Once was in town to collect the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Maltin Modern Master Award, and charmed attendees — including more than a few Academy members — with self-deprecation (“All the ‘nepo baby’ jokes, believe me, I’ve heard them all”), a claim that she “invented” Instagram and general candor about her 45 years as a screen actress: “I know what I can do, I know what I cannot do, and I’ve managed to have a really rich and robust group of opportunities in show-off business.”

Following the world premiere of “My Neighbor Adolf” on the Piazza Grande in Locarno, Beta Cinema has sold the dark comedy to Vendetta Films, which will bring the Udo Kier and David Hayman starrer to cinemas across Australia and New Zealand in the first quarter of next year.
Prior to Locarno, Beta Cinema sold the film to Hungary (Cinetel) and Switzerland (Praesens Film), while deals for North America (Cohen Media Group), U.K. and Ireland (Signature Entertainment), Italy (I Wonder), South Korea (Lumix Media) and Japan (Tohokushinsha Film) had been revealed before.
The film is set in Colombia in 1960, just a few days after the Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann was caught by Mossad agents in Argentina. Polsky, played by Hayman, is a lonely and grumpy old man, living in the remote Colombian countryside. He is a survivor of the Holocaust. He spends his days playing chess and tending his beloved rosebushes.

Warner Bros. Discovery has had a rough go of it recently. The newly-formed mega corporation’s decision to callously prune HBO Max’s servers of hours of content has led to mountains of bad PR and billions of dollars in market cap losses. Suffice it to say, a jam-packed list of new HBO Max releases for September 2022 would provide some welcome relief for the “House of the House of the Dragon.”
Unfortunately, HBO Max’s new releases this month are uncommonly light. It’s impossible to say whether this is the result of more Wbd meddling or simply some bad scheduling luck but either way it’s not going to make any executives’ seats less warm. There are only a handful of notable originals this month, led by season 2 of the Spanish language comedy Los Espookys on Sept. 16. That is joined by a pair of documentaries, Escape from Kabul on Sept.

Beta Cinema has sold the English-language tragicomedy “My Neighbor Adolf” to several major territories. The film stars German actor Udo Kier and Scottish actor David Hayman, and is directed by Israel’s Leon Prudovsky.
All rights for North America have gone to Cohen Media Group, Signature Entertainment has acquired the U.K./Ireland rights, I Wonder took Italy, Lumix Media has South Korea and Tohokushinsha Film took Japan.
The film, set in 1960, centers on Polsky, a Holocaust survivor, who lives in the remote Colombian countryside. One day, when a mysterious old German man moves in next door, he suspects that his new neighbor is Adolf Hitler. Since nobody believes him, he embarks on a mission to uncover the evidence. In order to gather it, however, he will need to come closer to his neighbor than he would like — so close that the two could almost become friends.

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

March 2022 is a great month for blonde women with cold, dead stares on Hulu.
With its list of new releases for March 2022, Hulu is highlighting two major original series ripped straight from the headlines. The first is The Dropout, which premieres on March 3. This show stars Amanda Seyfried (taking over from the previously cast Kate McKinnon) as Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. This story about high-level corporate fraud is truly wild, enough so to accommodate several books, podcasts, and even an upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence. Hulu is certainly hoping its version is the definitive one.

John le Carré, whose bestselling novels about the chilly world of Cold War espionage were the basis for a long series of popular film and TV adaptations, has died of pneumonia. He was 89.
Le Carré’s literary agency, Curtis Brown, announced his death on Dec. 13 via Twitter. The beloved storyteller, whose real name was David Cornwell, was a favorite among writers and screenwriters for the naturally cinematic touches and propulsive narratives he delivered over a career that spanned a half century and 25 novels, the most recent of which was published in 2019, three days after his 88th birthday.

Iron Man 3 is one of the most panned Marvel movies on there, but here’s why it doesn’t deserve its awful reputation.
“I’m so sorry that everyone on the internet has decided to have the worst opinions when it comes to Marvel movies, but while talking about the worst movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you best keep Iron Man 3 out ya mouth. Easily the best movie in the Iron Man trilogy, I think that Iron Man 3 gets a bad rap because it pushed the envelope, which then informed movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier in the emotional impact these situations have on their characters.”

Daniel Radcliffe began acting when he was 6 years old, playing a monkey in a school play. By the time he was 12, he was an international movie star, taking on the role of Harry Potter in a series of film adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s books. He went on to portray everything from a World War I soldier killed in battle to a talking corpse with digestive issues to a political prisoner. Just take a look at his impressive body of work.

AMC's adaptation of John le Carré’s spy novel, The Little Drummer Girl, has an impressive main cast.
The Little Drummer Girl will likely evoke excitement from viewers who enjoyed the joint AMC/BBC intercontinental TV miniseries, The Night Manager, since it’s also a miniseries adaption of a spy novel by John le Carré.
Similar to The Night Manager (which appears to be returning), The Little Drummer Girl will brandish an impressive cast, headlined by the trio of Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Shannon and Florence Pugh. Emmy-winning partners The Ink Factory, BBC One and AMC will reteam and Korean director Park Chan-wook will make his TV debut at the helm for the series.

It’s Obi-Wan versus Fidel! Well, not really. The pre-Bond espionage genre lights up with cool intrigues and comic absurdities, as a Brit vacuum salesman in Havana is recruited to spy for Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The filmmakers and stars are all top caliber, and the location is legendary: Castro’s Cuba, immediately after the revolution.

We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in October 2018.
Happy Huluween!
Hulu is blessed to have a name that sounds roughly enough like "Hallow." That means it's basically honor-bound to bring the heat for Halloween. Thankfully for the October 2018 new releases, Hulu is bringing us the spookies that we need. The Blair Witch Project, The Others, and Child's Play all arrive this month. And if you're looking for some more wholesome creepies, The Nightmare Before Christmas should do. And if that weren't enough, Hulu is debuting its own horror show - anthology series Into the Dark.
For those shamefully unable to get into the Halloween spirit, Hulu is bringing in some other fun film options. Galaxy Quest, Music and Lyrics, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective should help out with that.
Then of course, are the usual and typically deep TV offerings.

It’s always fun to watch Pierce Brosnan play the anti-Bond and some of his darker parts in the past include John Boorman’s 2001 The Tailor of Panama as a ruthless British spy and 2006’s The Matador as a sleazy hitman. In Survivor, Brosnan plays baddie assassin “The Watchmaker” who is hellbent on taking out a foreign service officer (Milla Jovovich). Life couldn’t be more complicated for her: She’s been framed for a terrorist bombing. Alchemy will release Survivor in…...

A Most Wanted Man
Written for the screen by Andrew Bovell
Directed by Anton Corbijn
USA/UK/Germany, 2014
In Anton Corbijn’s foreign espionage thriller A Most Wanted Man, the late Philip Seymour Hoffman lends his take on an unconventional looking German intelligence agent, one without the usual dashing attributes associated with cinematic spies. Although sprinkled with cerebral-minded intrigue and conducting its atmospheric tension in methodical fashion, A Most Wanted Man feels relentlessly sluggish in its execution to live up to its labored political-coated drama. This low-energy, plodding spy showcase has its isolated highlights in sleek suspense, but fails to drive home any genuine revelations about its touchy subject matter regarding counter-intelligence suspicion and terrorist paranoia. Despite solid and committed performances, it’s a slow burn of a thriller that simply lingers without fortifying any convincing punch.
Corbijn’s intelligence operative narrative is based upon a John le Carré novel.

Ever since becoming a wizard at the age of 12, Daniel Radcliffe has been an international star.
Seemingly tailor-made for the role of Harry Potter, the young actor went from complete unknown to superstar overnight -- and he'd barely hit puberty. Since his days in the blockbuster franchise, Radcliffe has starred on Broadway and in indie movies, earning critical acclaim and shedding his child star image along the way. This fall, the (still) young actor stars in the devilish "Horns."
From "The Simpsons" to his connection to Charles Dickens, here are 17 things you probably don't know about Daniel Radcliffe.
1. Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born July 23, 1989 in West London, England to Marcia Gresham Jacobson and Alan George Radcliffe.
2. His mother is a casting agent born in South Africa and raised in Essex, England. His father is a literary agent from County Down, Northern Ireland.
3. Both of Radcliffe's parents acted as children.

It has been a pretty good decade or so for John le Carré fans looking for the spymaster's works on the big screen. The 2000s have seen "The Tailor Of Panama," "The Constant Gardner" and "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" hit theaters, with both "A Most Wanted Man" and "Our Kind Of Traitor" in post, while "Smiley's People" continues in development. And now, yet another work by the author is making its way to the multiplex. "The Departed" scribe William Monahan has been tapped to adapt le Carré's upcoming novel, "A Delicate Truth." Set to hit bookstores in a couple of weeks, the story centers on the execution and aftermath of a counter-terrorist operation. Here's the book synopsis from Amazon: A Delicate Truth opens in 2008. A counter-terrorist operation, codenamed Wildlife, is being mounted on the British crown colony of Gibraltar. Its purpose: to capture and abduct a high-value jihadist arms-buyer. Its...

Legendary British TV scribe Andrew Davies has been hired to pen a six episode TV mini-series adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's classic "War and Peace" for The BBC. The project is scheduled to air on BBC One in 2015.

10. The Tailor of Panama
John le Carré’s books are resurgent thanks to the new film adaptation of Tinker, Tailor. This 2001 John Boorman movie sees Geoffrey Rush’s tailor reluctantly finding himself acting as a spy, with disastrous consequences. Also starring Pierce Brosnan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Brendan Gleeson, and Daniel Radcliffe (in his film debut) this is sure to keep you engaged.
9. Munich

Daniel Craig has only starred in two James Bond movies so far. That’s one more than walking-Trivial-Pursuit-factoid George Lazenby ever managed, and the equal of proto-Craig Timothy Dalton. The currently-filming Skyfall will put Craig in striking distance of Pierce Brosnan, whose four films ran the gamut from good (Goldeneye) to funny-bad (Tomorrow Never Dies) to horrible (The World is Not Enough) to batcrap-crazy (Die Another Day.) Sean Connery made six “official” Bond movies, but if you throw in his off-brand Thunderball remake Never Say Never Again, then he’s tied with Roger Moore at seven 007 movies.
That seven-film record always seemed essentially unbreakable.

Having never read a novel by John le Carré, I guess I shouldn't be this excited for "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy." On the other hand, forget the connection to Mr. David John Moore Cornwell: as a movie fan alone, how can not be excited about this movie? It's the first film directed by Tomas Alfredson since his amazing Swedish vampire movie "Let the Right One In" and the cast includes such British acting heavyweights as Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Toby Jones, Ciarán Hinds, and Mark Strong. Plus, I may not have read any of le Carré's novels, but I've seen the previous movie adaptations of his work; "The Spy Who Came In From the Cold" (1965), "The Tailor of Panama" (2001), and "The Constant Gardener" (2005). They all range from good to classic.

… and John Patterson should know. He's spent the summer watching John Le Carré adaptations
To while away the time until the release of Tomas Alfredson's remake of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, I've spent a happy summer immersing myself in John Le Carré's back catalogue. It hardly feels like work at all.
Few novelists manage to see three of their novels filmed within a span of five years. It happened to Le Carré after The Spy Who Came In From The Cold became a worldwide bestseller in 1963, and Martin Ritt's classic 1965 film adaptation, with Richard Burton and Claire Bloom (Rupert Davies as Smiley), offered a bleak and morally complex alternative to the James Bond ethos.
The Deadly Affair, Sidney Lumet's adaptation of Call For The Dead appeared in 1966. James Mason plays Smiley (renamed Charles Dobbs) with the same bespectacled, hang-dog mien he wore in Georgy Girl the same year,...

There are many, many people who didn’t like Anton Corbijn‘s last directorial effort, The American, and yet I have no doubt that he made the exact film he wanted to. Even though I wasn’t the biggest fan of it (but not because “it was boring!”), I have to respect someone who can turn out a wide release that’s as alienating as that film, and do so with the biggest movie star in the world in the lead. And one thing that most people seemed to agree on when discussing that picture was the impressive technical skill on display, just as people commended his debut, Control. Because of that, I find myself actually kind of excited for what he does next, even if his last feature didn’t blow me away.

Well it looks like another John le Carré novel is about to be adapted into a feature film. In 1965, Martin Ritt directed the first film adaptation of a John le Carré novel, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. In 1966, Sidney Lumet directed The Deadly Affair. In 1969, Frank Pierson directed The Looking Glass War. In 1984, George Roy Hill directed The Little Drummer Girl. In 1990, Fred Schepisi directed The Russia House. In 2001, John Boorman directed The Tailor of Panama. In 2005, Fernando Meirelles directed The Constant Gardener, and just last year it was announced that Peter Morgan and John le Carré were writing a cinematic adaptation of the novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
Now according to THR, director Anton Corbijn (The American) will bring us the ninth adaptation. Corbijn has signed on to direct A Most Wanted Man from a screenplay by Andrew Bovell (Edge of Darkness). The tale is loosely...

There are films I’ll eventually see this year, then there are films I would do just about anything to get my eyes on. You don’t need to guess which category Tomas Alfredson‘s Let The Right One In follow-up Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy falls into. We knew Universal Pictures acquired the spy thriller starring The Dark Knight Rises leads Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy, but now we have firm plans.
They are joined by Oscar-winner Colin Firth and Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Stephen Graham and Benedict Cumberbatch (who will be seen in Steven Spielberg‘s War Horse and Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit). We now know, thanks to Variety, that Universal’s independent arm Focus Feature, will release the film on November 18th, 2011.
We will likely see the film on fall festival run as well, as producer Doug Urbanski recently stated their “very serious Oscar contender” has been...

Here are some new images from Tomas Alfredson‘s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The film is based on the novel by John le Carré (The Constant Gardener, The Tailor of Panama) with a script adapted by Peter Morgan. It has an amazing cast that includes Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy, Colin Firth. Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Benedict Cumberbatch, David Dencik, Stephen Graham, Toby Jones, and John Hurt. The thriller is set during the Cold War and follows a retired spy (Oldman) brought in to find a suspected spy within British intelligence agency MI6.
Producer Doug Urbanski reported earlier that he Universal Pictures film had been invited to open the Venice Film Festival and that it was a “very serious Oscar contender.” It is slated for release in the UK in September and a Us release in October or November. Below is our first official ook at Hardy and Firth in the film.

One of our most-anticipated films this year is Let The Right One In director Tomas Alfredson‘s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Based on the novel by espionage master John le Carré (The Constant Gardener, The Tailor of Panama), the property has already been turned into a BBC series and radio show, but will be getting the feature film treatment for the first time. If the excellence of Let The Right One In isn’t enough to amp up anticipation, the cast is also stellar.
Think of it as a pre-The Dark Knight Rises reunion with Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy leading with Oscar-winner Colin Firth. Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Benedict Cumberbatch, David Dencik, Stephen Graham, Toby Jones, and John Hurt also star in the Cold War-set thriller following a retired spy (Oldman) brought in to find a suspected spy within British intelligence agency MI6.
