Knights errant in Georgia
hmsgroop4 October 2000
Don Quixote and Sancho Pansa come to Georgia to liberate Prometheus chained to one of the mountains of Caucasus. Georgians know Prometheus as Amirani. Don Quixote and his squire get acquainted with Luarsab, a local prince, who is known as a valiant knight, advocate of feasts and merrymaking. They certainly go off together in search of Amirani and their adventures are both funny and sad. They seek to establish justice, to help every living being but their quest fails to gain the understanding of the populace of Georgia. On their way they meet cruelty, dogmatism, ignorance but they meet good people as well. Finally a monk finds their ideas dangerous and full of heresy and they end chained to the rocks like Amirani. But there is hope for them and their cause: an orphan boy believes that they are "kind people". The film fell short of my expectations as it was stated in reviews that it was a parable. It lacks the depth of the parable and one could have done better with such characters and actors.
