There have been many rumours over the years that “The Osbournes” wasn’t quite as real as viewers had been led to believe, but family patriarch Ozzy Osbourne is insisting that there was nothing scripted about the MTV reality hit.
During the latest episode of SiriuxXM’s “Ozzy Speaks”, the former Black Sabbath frontman revealed that the series was inspired by another MTV hit, “MTV Cribs”, in which music stars showed off their luxurious homes.
“That was the most one they wanted to see over, and I went and I said, ‘Why don’t we do an extended Cribs?'” Osbourne told co-host Billy Morrison, admitting it “gets pretty old very quick when you got cameras stuck in every room.”

Dave Sirulnick spent nearly three decades at MTV, helping launch the signature “Week in Rock” news franchise and overseeing “Total Request Live” — as well as reality series including “Laguna Beach,” “Cribs” and “My Super Sweet 16.” He spearheaded MTV’s Video Music Awards, as well as its ground-breaking “Choose or Lose” presidential campaign coverage and news programming stemming from world events such as Hurricane Katrina, the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the 2003 war in Iraq. Sirulnick rose to executive vice president for multiplatform production, news and music for MTV before departing in 2015 as part of a major Viacom reorg. With the news that Paramount Global has eliminated the last vestiges of MTV News (which had already been significantly downsized), Variety asked Sirulnick — now president of entertainment at RadicalMedia — to share his thoughts.

Paramount’s MTV has been found in breach of British broadcasting rules after it showed an expletive-laden episode of MTV Cribs US before the 9Pm watershed.
The youth channel broadcast a tour of Ray J’s home in Miami on various dates between December 2022 and January 2023, all of which were before the threshold for gratuitous offensive language.
“During the show, two instances of the word f**k were broadcast, as well as nine instances of the word s**t” and one instance of an offensive word for breasts, said Ofcom, the UK media regulator.
Paramount said the incorrect version of Cribs was broadcast and this was a “regrettable mistake.” It added that the error was a “one off” rather than a “systematic failing.”
Paramount did, however, defend the broadcast of the words “s**t” and the breasts term at 8Pm, arguing they were used in a non-aggressive and humorous context.

It's genuinely surprising that the peculiar Transylvanian family residing at 1313 Mockingbird Lane was never updated for modern audiences until 2022. "The Munsters" TV show ran on CBS for only two seasons in the mid-1960s and then sat dormant for decades until Rob Zombie finally revived the series, transforming it into a Technicolor feature film that eventually landed on Netflix. The final product served as more of a prequel to the TV series that focused on the bizarre courtship between Herman (Jeff Daniel Phillips) and Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie) before settling down with Lily's grandfather The Count, their son Eddie and their niece Marilyn.
Regardless of whether you're a fan of the 2022 film or not, (/Film's review wasn't exactly kind), Zombie felt like the perfect choice to direct. "The Munsters" was a dream project for the musician and filmmaker who had long been obsessed with the original series and subsequent TV...

“Marriage is the only way to prosperity and the only way into the kingdom of God,” exclaims Lee-Curtis Childs (Sterling K. Brown), the pastor of a Southern Baptist megachurch, “Take it from me… I am the prophet with the beautiful wife and the gorgeous Bugatti!” The crowd of worshippers laugh and applaud, either glad or ignorant about their role in bankrolling a charlatan. Lee-Curtis and his wife Trinitie (Regina Hall) use religion not for the community but for their own pursuit of wanton materialism. This is the satirical conceit of Adamma Ebo’s Honk for Jesus. Save your Soul. and it lays it on very thick within the opening half hour.
For example, during a tour of their cavernous walk-in wardrobe, Trinitie talks of avoiding extravagance as Lee-Curtis tries on a pair of glittery turquoise loafers and a yellow trilby hat. Another scene sees the couple sitting on gilded thrones.

Trevor Noah is mourning the loss of his 95-year-old grandma, Gogo, who was laid to rest on May 12. "This morning our family laid to rest the oldest member of our clan, Frances Noah, or as most of us referred to her, Gogo," Noah shared on Instagram on Thursday. The post featured a video of a smiling Noah sitting beside his grandma as she playfully asked him, "How can I smile for a photo when I don't have teeth?"
Remembering some of his best moments with his late grandmother, the "Daily Show" host wrote a heartfelt tribute to Gogo. "My grandmother was born in 1927 and even though she was 95 years old, she still had the best memory of us all," he said. After serving as cinematographer on “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” John Inwood is no stranger to the Tina Fey and Robert Carlock comedy style: dense with jokes and quick cuts to flashbacks, fantasies and parodies, and there was the occasional musical number. But “Girls5eva,” created by former “Kimmy” writer Meredith Scardino and produced by Fey and Carlock, took it to the next level, following the titular girl group that reunites 20 years later for another go.
“It’s a lot of fun with this show because we have a very good TV family that’s been working together for many years,” Inwood tells Gold Derby (watch above). “Season 1 was a lot of fun and very challenging. ABC's "Queens" ended its season finale with lots of unexpected surprises and a major cliffhanger. The final episode of season one, which aired on Feb. 15, marked the (virtual) return of Eve's character, Brianna, and set the queens - Naturi Naughton, Brandy, and Nadine Velazquez - up to head out on their own world tour. Though the series still hasn't been renewed for a second season, it's already covered lots of ground in reflecting the realities of the music industry.
"Queens" is one of the few network shows that's come along to honestly portray the obstacles and challenges of women in music. Naughton, who has firsthand experience in the industry, tells Popsugar that the show incorporates some her own accounts as a former member of 2000s girl group, 3Lw. For today’s gift guide, we’ve organized everything into specialized sections, including artwork, apparel and accessories, jewelry and enamel pins, and a miscellaneous category where you’ll find a fun assortment of items and gift ideas for this holiday season.
A quick note: I think most of us are aware that mail and shipping has been slow as molasses this year, so I encourage you to do your shopping early on, as some of these sites have a cut-off date coming up in the next week, and you wouldn’t want your gifts to arrive after the holidays. So, if you’re looking to do some shopping and support...

When MTV brought back the home-exploring docuseries Cribs, it also welcomed the return of its familiar voice for many past seasons, SuChin Pak. The MTV News alum served as narrator for the popular series where celebrities open up their often wacky (or totally swanky) abodes, refrigerator doors, and bedrooms to show “where the action happens.” The series is a trip down memory lane for Pak, who first joined the network in 2001. She has come a long way since, breaking new ground for representation and learning from each experience throughout her career. These days, viewers can not only hear her on Cribs or past episodes of True Life, but on a podcast, the journalist hosts with comedian, writer, and director Kulap Villysak called Add to Cart from Lemonada Media. We caught up with Pak for a nostalgic and thought-provoking chat. How was being a part of Cribs once again? SuChin Pak:...

Snooki is an international reality TV star—except to her children. The mother of three hilariously shared during E! News' Daily Pop on Aug. 25 that her kids have no idea what she actually does for a living. "Well, as of right now, they think I'm an actress," the MTV Cribs star exclusively shared today. "They think Jersey Shore is like E.R., like an actual scripted drama series. So I'm good for a little bit. 'Mommy is an actress, she's won a lot of Emmys and she kills it.'" Snooki added, "But I feel like once they're, like, 18, I can be like, 'Alright, kids that was really mommy, and she was a mess." Fittingly, Snooki co-hosts...

Additionally, Rocsi Diaz (106 & Park, Dating Naked) has been tapped to host the show.
Rather than performing as themselves, Alter Ego contestants will create their dream avatar to showcase how they’ve always wanted to be seen, while presenting their unique performance style via motion capture technology.

Welcome (back) to my crib. MTV is officially reviving the beloved, iconic, era-defining show Cribs, in which celebrities give tours of their over-the-top homes. It's like Architectural Digest's home tours, but sillier. Cara Delevingne may have a vagina tunnel, but does she have nocturnal fish and an entire closet for lingerie, a la Mariah Carey? Not as far as we know! (Ad did have something to say about the news on Twitter...) This time around, the list of celeb homes we'll get to tour is truly out of control. Sneak a peek at Martha Stewart's bathroom, or JoJo Siwa's living room. Ryan Lochte will probably show off his pool, while Scott Disick must have a dining room fit...

The second episode of “Girls5eva” opens with a flashback to an early 2000s episode of MTV’s “Cribs” featuring Wickie Roy. The “fierce one” of the titular group shows off her Malibu beachfront property that boasts a “purple expensive” theme and a custom mantle for all her future awards now that she’s gone solo. At the time, only one trophy resided there (I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that did not change much over the next 20 years): the Napster Music Award for Wettest Mouth in a Girl Group. Wickie’s portrayer, Renée Elise Goldsberry, has a far more, well, illustrious résumé that includes a Tony and Grammy for “Hamilton,” and if voters do the right thing, she will next be able to call herself an Emmy nominee for Best Comedy Actress.

The non-scripted television business is made up of a wily group of people who deftly navigated their way through the Covid-19 pandemic to get a large volume of shows on air.
There is now new light at the end of the tunnel and shows that were shut down, forced to adapt or paused during the last twelve months are starting to find a sense of normality with the likes of American Idol bringing back audiences, Survivor finally getting back into production and American Ninja Warrior returning to its traditional summer time slot.
There is also a widespread sense of optimism that the next twelve months will be buoyant for the business – the “roaring ‘20s of non-scripted” as one buyer called it – with the pandemic having an encouraging impact on development that will see some wild and noisy ideas emerge.
Deadline has spoken to close to 50 senior buyers and sellers from across the broadcast,...

Whether you love them or not, the Kardashians fundamentally changed the reality TV genre with their branding and longevity, says Lauren Lazin, a veteran reality TV producer and executive producer of “For Real: The Story of Reality TV.”
“For Real” delves into the origins of a television genre that is now a staple of the pop culture zeitgeist. The series premiere airs Thursday on E!, the same network that propelled the Kardashian family to fame.
Lazin explained how the genre has evolved in the three decades since its inception.
“I think for a lot of the audience, they understand the storytelling tropes,” Lazin said. “They understand what seems real, what doesn’t seem real, what was done for the camera, what’s an authentic moment that was captured. So the audience itself is a lot more knowledgeable about the storytelling and how to view it. For the talent, they’ve gotten a lot more savvy.

Applications to film on-location in Los Angeles surged 43.1% in February over January, according to FilmLA, the city and county film permit office.
A late-month surge in production made last month the third-busiest FilmLA has recorded since June, when production tentatively resumed after the Covid-19 shutdown, though the agency said “activity remains around 40% below normal for this time of year.”
“As new Covid-19 case counts diminish and more projects restart production, we are optimistic that the local film economy will soon be back on track,” said FilmLA president Paul Audley. “On-location filming, for months conducted safely in observance of strict health protocols, will surely rise again with the reopening of businesses and expanding vaccine availability.”
Some of the series shot locally that started or resumed filming recently include: Grey’s Anatomy, Curb Your Enthusiasm, This is Us, American Crime Impeachment Story, Shameless, Dear White People, All American, Generation, 9-1-1: Lone Star, Seal Team and You.

MTV International is rebooting iconic format “MTV Cribs,” with guests including Caitlyn Jenner, Nickelodeon personality and singer JoJo Siwa, former “Glee” star Kevin McHale and British singer Stefflon Don.
The global launch follows something of a warm-up for “Cribs” in the last year. The show received a U.K. adaptation in September 2019, followed by this summer’s “MTV Cribs: Footballers Stay Home,” which was filmed remotely during the global pandemic. Snapchat also rebooted the format in the U.S. for a short-form series back in 2017.
The show, which is in many ways tailor-made for lockdown programming, takes viewers inside celebrity homes, with high-profile stars greeting the camera at their front doors, and providing intimate tours of various rooms and highlighting prized possessions. “Cribs” first debuted in 2000 and ran for 13 seasons. By 2005, the show had visited around 185 homes of celebrities including Destiny’s Child, Snoop Dogg and Mariah Carey.

But as it turns out, Thor was originally paired up with a different Avenger. In a recent interview with Fandango, co-writer Stephen McFeely said:

Viacom has tapped former Lego exec Lars Silberbauer as the new Svp of MTV Digital Studios.
At Lego, Silberbauer is credited with building the storied Danish toy brand’s global social media strategy from scratch (12 million Facebook fans and 1 billion annual YouTube views), as well as the launch of Lego TV in 24 markets, which features animated content. At MTV, Silberbauer will oversee creative, development, and production for the network’s digital originals, and charge all of MTV’s social media channels.
MTV says that it is currently riding its highest linear ratings streak in seven years, and seeking to expand its reach on mobile and social media via the relaunch of popular shows like Trl and Cribs -- as well as original series. Parent company Viacom unveiled some of these plans during a presentation at the first-ever NewFronts West earlier this month.
