I can't speak highly enough of this game! It can be challenging at times and damn right frustrating but knowing you finished this game is extremely satisfying. I've finished this game many times over the years and look forward to completing it many more times to come.

Amazing

"WinBack: Covert Operations" for the N64 is an absolute gem of a game. From the moment I started playing, I was hooked on the exciting action, clever puzzles, and immersive story. This game truly has it all, and I would give it a 10/10 rating without hesitation.

First and foremost, the gameplay in WinBack is incredibly fun and engaging. The controls are intuitive and responsive, making it easy to pull off all kinds of moves and maneuvers. From sneaking around corners to blasting enemies with an arsenal of weapons, every action feels satisfying and impactful. The variety of gameplay mechanics, from stealth to all-out combat, keeps things fresh and exciting throughout the game.

But what really sets WinBack apart is its clever use of puzzles and level design. Each level is expertly crafted, with plenty of hidden secrets and tricky obstacles to overcome. I was constantly surprised by the clever ways the game challenged me to use my brain and think on my feet. And the boss battles are some of the most memorable and intense I've ever encountered in a video game.

Of course, the story is also a major highlight of WinBack. It's a classic tale of espionage and betrayal, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well-written and memorable, and the voice acting is top-notch. The game does an excellent job of immersing you in its world and making you care about the fate of its heroes and villains alike.

Overall, I can't recommend WinBack: Covert Operations enough. Whether you're a fan of action games, stealth games, or just great storytelling, this game has something for everyone. It's a true masterpiece that stands the test of time, and I would give it a perfect 10/10 score without reservation.

Badly designed and horribly flawed almost to the point of unplayable

It's not an unenjoyable game. But it has too many crippling flaws.

First thing is the aiming. Which is very unreliable and untrustworthy. Manual aim is of course out of the question in most combat situations, because it's too slow. And lock-on aim is very bad. You can't really trust it. You never know if you're going to lock on under pressure, since the enemy may be out of range, too much to the side or a number of other problems. Also, if an enemy is out of range, they can still shoot you. There is also this weird thing that if an enemy is slightly to the side and your character aims straight ahead but then locks on, he aims the gun towards the enemy very slowly and you'll miss the first few shots and can get shot yourself first.

Second is the overwhelming amount of laser traps in this game. The moving ones are the worst ones, since your only way to get past those is by timing a roll under them. And if you don't, you're instantly dead and lose all your progress. Unfortunately, I didn't have the patience to get past one in Stage 10(I think), where you have to roll under a laser way too many times. That one was somehow so damn hard and I kept dying there.

There's a certain strategy to the combat. And once you nail it, the game can be pretty satisfying. But sadly, the experience is too flawed and a single mistake can also make you lose too much progress sometimes.
