Creating Utopia with an age limit...
Doylenf19 June 2009
MGM liked to promote their new movies with short subjects that told more than the average trailer was capable of doing. This is a behind-the-scenes look at LOGAN'S RUN starring Michael York and Richard Jordan, a sci-fi film directed by Michael Anderson.

Haven't seen the film, but I get the impression that it's largely a collection of visual effects to create a Utopian universe with a single flaw--an age limit. Oddly enough, the design of this Utopia looks suspiciously similar to the designs on display at the "World of Tomorrow" featured at the N.Y. World's Fair of 1939. Gives credence to the motto, "Nothing is new under the sun." Director Michael Anderson is shown putting Michael York and Richard Jordan through their paces, as well as Jenny Agutter. They react to the various effects as soon as he calls "Action!" and the laser lights and image techniques burst into a full display of pyrotechnics.

It's obviously a film dominated by its special effects and is probably a big favorite among sci-fi fans.

Great Short Documentary of Making of Logan's Run
zensixties30 January 2004
This is a short documentary that comes with the DVD of Logan's run as a "Featurette". It's a great behind the scenes look at the film as it was being made in Dallas/Fort Worth and at MGM studios. Michael York and Jenny Agutter give short interviews on the set and the director does most of the narration. We see all the technical work that went into making this "perfect world". Definitely worth getting the DVD for this as well as the audio commentary.

A Look Into the 23rd Century is a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the movie Logan's Run

Just watched this promotional short meant to possibly fill some time on TV whenever a movie ran short in the two-hour time slot. A Look Into the 23rd Century takes a behind-the-scenes look at the making of M-G-M's Logan's Run. This Sci-Fi tale about a future where everyone is just, to quote an old '60s saying, "letting it all hang out" before a certain age makes you vulnerable is showcased with comments from producer Saul David, director Michael Anderson, and actors Michael York and Jenny Agutter spread throughout the the 9-minute film. Also shown and mentioned is co-player Richard Jordan. Quite a fascinating look at the sets and special effects of this picture. Now I'm going to watch the feature itself...
