Director Sébastien Vaniček has been set to helm the next Evil Dead movie, but up first from the filmmaker is the creepy crawly spider horror movie Infested. New images give a closer look at the arachnophobia-inducing terror ahead.
Look for Infested to arrive on Shudder on April 26, 2024.
Check out the new images below, giving a closer look at the characters and the spiders that have laid siege to their building.
In the film, “An underprivileged suburb has been thrown into chaos following an invasion of venomous spiders. Ordered to be placed in quarantine, the project sees inhabitants living on lockdown alongside terrifying spiders that are becoming bigger and bigger.
“The story revolves around Kaleb, who’s about to turn 30 and has never been lonelier. He’s fighting with his sister over a matter of inheritance and has cut ties with his best friend.

In the build-up to the release of Evil Dead Rise (read our review right Here) last year, Evil Dead franchise rights holders Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert let it be known that they were already looking forward to producing more entries in the series, with Campbell revealing they were hoping to make a new sequel / spin-off every two or three years. It looks like they’re on track to do just that, as earlier this week it was announced that Sébastien Vaniček – who just made his feature directorial debut on the French horror film Vermin, a.k.a. Infested – has been hired to direct the next Evil Dead movie. Since Vermin happens to be nominated in two categories at this year’s César Awards, the website Konbini was able to catch up with Vaniček at a nominees’ dinner, and while talking with him they learned that he has...

A brand new Evil Dead film is on the way, which looks to be a fresh spin-off movie rather than a direct Evil Dead Rise follow-on.
The decade gap between 2013’s Evil Dead reboot and last year’s box office success Evil Dead Rise brought with it the promise that there wouldn’t be such a long gap between future installments in the franchise. And while we wait to see if Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin will be signed up to direct a follow-up to that film, a spin-off movie is set to keep the franchise bubbling along.
The film does not yet have a name, but it does appear to have a director. Sebastien Vanicek, who directed last year’s success Infested, has reportedly now been signed up to write and helm a new Evil Dead movie.

Sébastien Vaniček, director of the French horror film “Infested (Vermines),” has signed with Creative Artists Agency and is now attached to direct a new spin-off in the “Evil Dead” horror series that will be produced by Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures.
No word yet on whether Warner Bros. will distribute the spin-off as it did with last year’s “Evil Dead Rise,” a film from writer-director Lee Cronin that was initially greenlit as a Max streaming exclusive film but was pivoted to a theatrical release, where it grossed $147 million at the global box office.
Raimi, who created the “Evil Dead” series in 1981 and cofounded Ghost House with Robert Tapert in 2002, was an executive producer on “Evil Dead Rise” with the franchise’s original star, Bruce Campbell.
Vaniček made his feature film debut with “Infested,” a film about a depressed 30-year-old who obsesses with exotic animals to grapple with his loneliness.

Here's something of a surprise: a new "Evil Dead" movie is on the way! After successfully relaunching the franchise with last year's nasty, gory "Evil Dead Rise," Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert's Ghost House Pictures have tapped up-and-coming filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček to helm what Deadline is describing as an "Evil Dead" spin-off film. I'm guessing they're calling it a "spin-off" rather than a sequel to imply that this new entry in the series will not connect to the recent "Evil Dead Rise." It's also unlikely to be a direct sequel to the original "Evil Dead" trilogy or the 2013 reboot.
In other words, it's time for a brand new story with brand new characters set in the "Evil Dead" world. I like this approach — you don't need connecting stories for an "Evil Dead" film. All you need is the basic set-up and you're free to run wild with it! Besides,...

In the wake of last year’s box office hit Evil Dead Rise, the fifth installment in the Sam Raimi-created film franchise, another brand new Evil Dead movie is on the way soon!
Deadline reports today that Sébastien Vaniček has been hired by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures to direct an untitled Evil Dead spinoff movie.
“Details as to the film’s plot are under wraps,” Deadline notes.
Sébastien Vaniček made his feature debut with Infested (Vermines) just last year, and it’s clear that Raimi and company saw serious Evil Dead potential in the filmmaker. The new course for the Evil Dead franchise is for Raimi to hand select hot up-and-coming filmmakers to put their own spin on the Deadites, which has been working exceedingly well for the bloody saga.

In his review out of Fantastic Fest last year, Bloody Disgusting’s Trace Thurman raved that Infested (aka Vermines) is “one of the best spider attack movies in years,” noting in his 4-star review that the creature feature uses practical spiders – Real Spiders – as much as possible. The film has been acquired for U.S. release by Shudder, but we don’t yet have a date.
In the meantime, a brand new French teaser trailer for Infested has arrived this week, and trust us when we say it’s as creepy crawly as you’re probably afraid this one is going to be.
Sébastien Vaniček directed the upcoming Infested, which is set in the French projects.

Here on Bloody Disgusting we’ve published several articles (find them all here) covering *our* favorite horror movies of last year, but it’s always interesting to take a look at year-in-review roundups from other places as well. Letterboxd, for example, kicks off each new year by spotlighting the previous year’s top hits, and their full 2023 Year in Review is now live.
As always, films are broken up into various categories based on highest user ratings, including the 10 Highest Rated Horror Movies of 2023. It’s hardly surprising that the list is topped by horror hits including Talk to Me, When Evil Lurks, and Scream VI, but there are also several films on the list that you probably wouldn’t expect – and maybe haven’t even heard of.

Snakes ‘n spiders: the two cornerstone big daddies of zoophobic horror. Sure, sharks are classic and rats have had their cinematic moments, but where would the genre be without eight-legged freaks and their slithering, limbless reptile brethren? People tend to fall into two categories – arachnophobic and ophidiophobic – but even if snakes give you the willies, director Sébastien Vaniček’s debut feature will leave you yearning for their cold-blooded embrace after you meet his army of creepy-crawly web-spinners.
Kaleb (Théo Christine) makes ends meet selling sneakers to the denizens of his low-income apartment block. A lover of reptiles, amphibians, and insects, Kaleb can’t resist when he comes across a mysterious spider for sale in a friend’s shop. After taking his new little friend home and placing her in a shoe box, the spider almost immediately escapes and quickly begins laying eggs in the walls and air vents of the building.

Fantastic Fest is currently winding down in Austin, Texas, with two more days of blood-splattered programming unfurling at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar.
But before the festival concludes (with a closing-night screening of Nahnatchka Khan’s “Totally Killer”), TheWrap can exclusively reveal the winners from this year’s festival – in all of their gore-drenched glory.
“We were graced with wonderful films from around the world this year,” said Annick Mahnert, Director of Programming for Fantastic Fest, in an official statement. “Curating this diverse showcase of cinema for our esteemed jurors was a real privilege. With so many incredible perspectives represented, their job reviewing these fantastic movies was undeniably challenging. Their thoughtful and professional critiques of each work embody the cinematic excellence we love to champion at Fantastic Fest.”

IFC Films has acquired North American and select International rights to “Stopmotion,” a psychological horror film that will have its world premiere at Fantastic Fest this September. The indie distributor will release the movie in theaters in 2024, followed by a streaming debut on Shudder, AMC Networks’ streaming service for horror, thrillers and other films about the supernatural. IFC’s parent company is AMC.
Directed by Robert Morgan, “Stopmotion” stars Aisling Franciosi (“The Nightingale”) as Ella Blake, a stop-motion animator who is struggling to control her demons after the loss of her overbearing mother. Suddenly alone in the world, she creates a macabre new puppet film, while struggling to maintain her sanity. As Ella’s mind starts to fracture, the characters in her animated film take on a terrifying life of their own, and the unleashed power of her imagination threatens to destroy her.

Brendan Rock stars as an isolated man living at the back of a desolate caravan park who is visited by a desperate young woman (Jordan Cowan) seeking shelter from a violent storm. Director Sébastien Vanicek’s debut feature Infested, a spider-filled French thriller that was formerly known as Vermin (which I feel is a better title than the overused Infested), is set to have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, then it will be heading over to Fantastic Fest. But before it starts making the festival rounds, it has already secured distribution through the Shudder streaming service! Shudder is planning to release the film in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand sometime in 2024.
Scripted by Vanicek and Florent Bernard, Infested has the following synopsis: Kaleb is about to turn 30 and has never been lonelier. He’s fighting with his sister over a matter of inheritance and has cut ties with his best friend. Fascinated by exotic animals, he finds a venomous spider in a bazaar and brings it back to his flat.
