Nice start, startling ending
unapalomablanca24 January 2008
When I first saw the movie, especially the part where Mila was crazy in love with Primo, I thought I was watching the predecessor to the movie Prime. I wanted to whack Mila because she fell for Primo's help-me antics. However, as the movie progressed, I found myself empathizing with the characters and in the process I forgot to review for my test! Anyhow, the story lines are very defined and the whole middle part kept my eyes on the screen. However, the ending was kind of undeserved and overrated. The scene where Mila died would have been fine and would probably keep the viewers implying the ending, rather than being served. Yes, the ending was so overrated and I felt it was unnecessary.

A movie who expose reality, with social relevance
sanchezmariel-1694022 October 2019
This movie was derived from the real life of Anita Pamintuan which was portrayed by Maricel Soriano who showed a very excellent performance in conveying her character, she gave justice to the emotion needed in every scene, no over reacting no dull moments. It was visible that she really gave her best in doing this movie. She seemingly enwrapped her self in the character of Mila Cabangan.

Mila was vey inspiring and an eye opener movie. It details the real life and sufferings of a public teachers despite of the enthusiasm and smile on their faces inside the class room. Mila Cabangan shows genuine concern for her students, she was concern in every situation her students was in, she make sure that she motivates and inspired them to the best of life. She was moved to join the strike for increase of wages of public School Teachers due to poverty but sad to say the Government decline their request and fired them in their job. Accopanying her lost of job is her problem with her lover Primo who was addicted to drugs. She found her self in Ermita, there she sees that there is so much more in need than her, she teaches street children and prostitutes who dont even know how to read and write. She found life in Ermita but she lost it as well in Ermita because of poverty.

This movies shows real life of Teachers how they have to teach whole heartedly despite of every situation they are in and how much they are giving their best in teaching their students while receiving wages less than they deserve. It also touches the problem of the country to human trafficking, drug addiction and the sigficant envolvement of the men of Government who must be the protector of the society with this wrong doings but instead they are the heas or member of those sindicates. It also shows the hardship of the people who are homeless and facing the dark life in the street everyday and how they failed to achieved their rights to descent education because of poverty.

The setting was very approrite to express the message of the story, the Cinematography and effects are able to make the movie relay in reality. Overall it was a great movie. It also tells every students to appreciate their teacher when they watch this movie.

Very Disappointing...
pUnKizNoTH8eD11 August 2003
when i was still living in the philippines, i saw this movie. in fact it was the last movie i saw before moving permanently to Cali. the trailers for this movie claimed to accurately tell of a life of a public school teacher. see, in the philippines public school teachers don't get paid enough, and so i guess u could say that their life is pretty tight. so i went and saw the movie.

it was very disappointing in the way that the trailers and the actors (when interviewed) pretty much lied to the people. the story was of a whole individual who had an extraordinary life. being a public school teacher wasn't all who she is, but the execs of the company played it like her being a teacher had everything to do with her whole life and even with her death. its not true! her life was pretty fascinating, i guess, so i give the drama 3/5 stars, but i was really really disappointed in the lying and the deceit they had to do just to have people see the movie. disgusting.
