Starring 'B girls' Brandy Miller and Zoe Paul, Penthouse Pet Nicole Marciano, Laurel (alt spelling Laural) Dunne, Karen Claasen and D.J. West.. not always in that order.. this DVD arrived in my mailbox courtesy of my LA connection by way of dear old Amazon some time last year.. five years late..
Purchased solely on the promise of Brandy Miller (the Texas one) i expected another Surrender Cinema type movie with pretty girls acting out their parts but this was the real thing.. the actual story of five models/actresses and their website.
Almost before the movie finished i was down at my internet café only to find that 'no angels' are no more.. from memory that site now sells records so i guess somewhere along the line something went wrong.
Now in New Zealand.. certainly in 'Whale Rider country'.. (Poverty Bay East coast) if you are going to set up a website you won't spend a cent.. (certainly if you can't afford to lose it) and everything will happen 'courtesy' of mates.. in the know and by way of those connections which just happen to come your way.. likely as not just because it is as good an excuse as any to hang out.
Apparently these ladies with their Bob Guccione and Hugh Hefner influences decided that the business ethos of those two gentlemen.. lots of parties lots of 'hoorah' should also be their own.. seemingly oblivious to the fact that some 'one'.. somewhere along the line has to be responsible for the 'bottom' line.
Throughout the affair however i really liked the Brandy as a person (c.f. actress) energy.. (not to mention the 'figure' she presented fully clothed as well as completely unclothed) always ready to start something or have a go.. and whereas she is great in her acting roles this type of energy is inevitably wasted without the necessary guidance.
Although the girls did get a 'moneyman' on board he too seemed to be swept up in the excitement.. (Nicole's business presentation to him appeared to be in the form of a personal strip-show).. as if he were spending someone el$e's.. and Zoe Paul's boyfriend who may also have offered a steadying influence seemed too caught up in his possessiveness to actually give his girl a hand.
I guess on the other side of this equation how many groups of pretty girls can one really expect to muster the 'Danni Ashe fortitude' to come to terms with the business/pleasure relationship that must be managing a website..
A pity though.. if they had only applied a little more of the 'kiss' ethos.. the 'keep it simple stupid' one as opposed to the 'and make up' one.. after what i have seen on the Net since purchasing my own computer i thought there was 'raw' talent enough to easily carry the 'less is more' philosophy.. and would have had no hesitation in taking out a gold club membership.. (providing they accepted international money orders.)
