When The Crow emerged thirty years ago, it changed how audiences could perceive graphic novel adaptations. It was dark, gritty, violent, and well ahead of its time. On top of that, it had one of the best soundtracks of the decade. However, it also spawned some pretty bad sequels. After the release of the last one two decades ago, it seemed just as long for a remake of the original to come to fruition, with multiple actors and directors coming and going. Finally, after all that time, we got to see exactly what The Crow would look like in 2024. The reactions have been, well, let’s just say a little more less than enthused. But what if I told you there was one you probably forgot about? One that has the most bonkers casting out of the entire franchise. One that misses the mark by such a wide margin that...

It’s been a long time coming, but a remake of the 1994 film The Crow (which was based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr) will finally be making its way out into the world on August 23rd, which is when Lionsgate will be giving the film a theatrical release. With that release date swiftly approaching, we figured we should gather together all the information we have on this movie… and here it is, Everything We Know About The Crow Remake:
Development Hell
When the original The Crow was released, it was successful enough to spawn a franchise, with three sequels following over the next eleven years. We got The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005, with several other potential sequels (including one that would have been written and directed by Rob Zombie) being developed and scrapped along the way.

The vengeful spirit Eric Draven first appeared in James O'Barr's indie comic "The Crow" in 1989. He became a Goth household name in 1994 thanks to the popularity of Alex Proyas' ultra-stylized, uber-Noir film adaptation starring Brandon Lee, who was infamously killed on the set of "The Crow" thanks to a misfiring prop gun. The teens of 1994 venerated the film, and "The Crow" was deeply beloved by many. The film warranted several sequels, including "The Crow: City of Angels" in 1994, "The Crow: Salvation" in 2000, and "The Crow: Wicked Prayer" in 2005. O'Barr's characters were also featured in the 1998 TV series "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven."
Although O'Barr's Goth sensibilities were a product of their time, filmmakers and producers have been trying to get a "Crow" remake off the ground for a long while, and the project has changed hands almost a dozen times in the last 20 years. After a lot of juggling,...

After years of being stuck in development hell, "The Crow" remake is finally coming to theaters this summer. It stars Bill Skarsgard ("It") as Eric Draven, the role made famous by the late Brandon Lee in director Alex Proyas' 1994 comic book film of the same name. The reaction to the recently released trailer and images has been mixed, to put it mildly. Now, Proyas himself has weighed in, and the forthcoming remake does not sit well with him.
Proyas took to Facebook recently to share some of his thoughts on this new version of "The Crow," which was directed by Rupert Sanders ("Snow White and the Huntsman"). Proyas, for his part, didn't have anything nice to say, as he even linked to an article from Comic Book Resources titled "The Crow Remake Trailer Gets Staggering Amount of Dislikes on YouTube." While Proyas prefaced his commentary by saying that he does...

Over the years, filmmaker Alex Proyas has maintained that his 1994 feature The Crow should not get a reboot out of respect for Brandon Lee, his star who died in an on-set accident. Now, after years of development, a The Crow reboot is indeed ready for release, and Proyas is once again expressing his concerns.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work. And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes,” Proyas wrote on Facebook Monday, along with a link to an article noting that The Crow reboot’s trailer received numerous dislikes on YouTube. “The Crow is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as...

The comic book "The Crow," created by James O'Barr in 1989, should be considered a seminal work in the then-growing Goth movement. The comics were about a man named Eric who was engaged to a woman named Shelly. One evening, Eric and Shelly are savagely beaten and assaulted. Eric is shot in the head but remains alive long enough to witness Shelly's horrible murder.
His story doesn't end there. The titular Crow appears over Eric's body and magically resurrects him, sending him on a quest for blood revenge. The unspeaking crow seems to want Eric to kill the punks that murdered Shelly, but also seemingly chastises him for brooding and remaining hung up on Shelly's death. Be angry, brood, but do not brood, and do not be angry. It's super-Goth. The comic was popular enough to warrant a celebrated film adaptation in 1994 starring Brandon Lee and directed by Alex Proyas. After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.
Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.
The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989. It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming. Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).
But the current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point.

It may be downright difficult to believe, but "The Crow" remake has finally happened. Yes, happened, not happening, as had been promised for so long. Lionsgate has now dropped the first trailer for the long-awaited new adaptation of the comic book by James O'Barr. After all these years, we are, at long last, going to see what Eric Draven looks like in a modern context a full 30 years after the first film arrived in 1994. Check it out for yourself above.
This time around, it's Bill Skarsgård, best known for his role as Pennywise the clown in the "It" movies, taking on the role of Eric Draven. Noticeably, his look is, well, different than what we've seen previously, most notably when the late Brandon Lee originated the role in director Alex Proyas' version of "The Crow." Whether that look is better or worse is a matter left to individual opinion, but...

If it feels like a new take on The Crow has been in development for 15 years, that's perhaps because a new take on The Crow has been in development for, well, 15 years at least. Yet after a revolving door of directors, writers and potential leads, it's finally headed our way this year, with Bill Skarsgård playing the tragic Eric Draven and Rupert Sanders directing. Check out the first images from the new adaptation of James O'Barr's graphic novel above and below.
O'Barr's original story focuses on Eric, a young man who, along with his fiancee Shelly, is brutally assaulted and slaughtered by a gang when their car breaks down. Eric is resurrected by a supernatural crow to stalk and seek vengeance against those responsible for the crime. The Crow series is a prime example of the sad but true happening of diminishing returns. While these are not 100% horror, they are often categorized as so and do contain a certain amount of horror elements. So if horror-adjacent is an issue, you’ve been warned. When it comes to the third entry in the series, well, it’s not exactly beloved. But it turns out it’s not the worst of the bunch, either. The Crow: Salvation (get it Here) didn’t do well upon release, didn’t exactly do well financially, and it’s not beloved by fans. Yet, something is interesting here, and it may be a lesson about filmmaking, timing, and taking risks.

Time and time again during this year’s pandemic, movie studios have had to make the best of a bad situation. HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2020 comes along with the most extreme example yet.
WarnerMedia undoubtedly had big plans for Wonder Woman 1984 when it scheduled it for a holiday release last year. After moving it to the summer, however, the conglomerate had to delay its theatrical release time and time again. Now HBO Max is the lucky winner of the saga, as it gets to premiere the long-awaited sequel on its servers on Dec. 25.
While Wonder Woman 1984 is definitely the headline this month, there are some other intriguing streaming options for HBO Max in December. The month plays host to a whole host of high-powered documentaries like Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults (Dec. 3), Alabama Snake (Dec. 9), and the Tiger Woods documentary Tiger (Dec.

From City of Angels to Stairway to Heaven, Alex Proyas’ cult horror flick The Crow inspired a smattering of sequels across screens big and small.
None of them were particularly memorable, of course, as they failed to capture the look and feel of their predecessor – not to mention the fact that the late Brandon Lee left some pretty big boots to fill. But that didn’t stem the tide, and in 2005, director Lance Mungia whipped together The Crow: Wicked Prayer, which is arguably the worst sequel of the lot.
But had things panned out differently, and Miramax green-lit James O’Barr’s original pitch, film fans may well have received a follow-up to The Crow that was worthy of the 1994 classic. As O’Barr tells Screen Geek, the proposed sequel would’ve taken things in a “completely different direction.”
My intention was to take it to a completely different direction.

A few weeks ago, in anticipation of Guardians of the Galaxy's theatrical release, I wrote about the Curse of Tor Johnson, named after the old-school wrestler (and Ed Wood muse) who may have also been responsible for 50 years of terrible performances from professional wrestlers.
Since I wrote for WWE's Monday Night Raw for about six months, I wondered if the presence of Dave Bautista, a former champion, would jinx Guardians' box-office mojo. Three weeks into its theatrical run (and more than $175 million in receipts later), it's safe to say the Curse has been broken.

The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus is the latest in a long line to be tipped to appear in The Crow, the reboot-cum-remake of the classic 1994 Brandon Lee vehicle of the same name. With Luke Evans having already been confirmed to star, it looks like Reedus will be taking on one of the film’s villain roles, though it’s uncertain which one he will play. If this remake is anything like the source material though (which means it’ll borrow from James O’Barr’s comic series, too), Reedus will at least have something to sink his teeth into.

Mixed Martial Arts (Mma) is a sport that is becoming more and more popular. Some of its biggest stars such as Randy Couture, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and even Tito Ortiz have made their way into the film world to use their fighting skills on the big screen. The big muscular high testosterone fighters ready to do their own fight scenes and kick ass all for the big bucks. The only real problem is some don’t actually seem to have that much acting talent, see Tito’s attempt in The Crow: Wicked Prayer as an example (I’m sure he’s improved).
It’s refreshing that one fighter from the Mma world has made the move and impressed a lot more than the others, and guess what?...

Sean Hood (Conan The Barbarian, The Crow: Wicked Prayer) has been involved with a potential "Rambo 5" for some time now, even going so far as to have written a script called Rambo: Last Stand. The project as a whole has been on hold for a while as Stallone did all sorts of other things, and when we last checked in six months ago some doubt was expressed as to whether another Rambo would even happen at all. Well, those amongst you excited for just such a movie can rest easy as Hood...

Check out the images from the indie horror movie Below Zero. Looking at the images and trailer below helped me warm up from this cold Tennessee night. The story is said to be "based on true events," but this is not what you are thinking. The story being told is not a real story at all, while I guess it is technically. Rather, the screenwriter put herself into the same situation the movie's protagonist finds himself in and wrote the movie. The film is directed by Justin Thomas Ostensen, stars Edward Furlong (T2, Night of the Demons, The Crow: Wicked Prayer) and genre vet Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, The Lords of Salem) along with Kristin Booth (The Kennedys).

The revolving door that is the reboot of James O'Barr's graphic novel The Crow on the big screen just keeps on spinning. Are you ready for a recap? Take a deep breath, here we go:Alex Proyas' initial 1994 film adaptation of the character proved enough of a cult hit to spawn three vastly inferior sequels - 1996's The Crow: City Of Angels, 2000's The Crow: Salvation and 2005's The Crow: Wicked Prayer - along with a 1998 television series with Mark Dacascos filling the role. The title has been dormant for some time now but execs have been looking for a way to bring it back.Director Stephen Norrington was initially slated to direct the reboot from a script by Nick Cave. Then an actor...

Though sometimes harrowing and, far too often, a terrible trip down awkward memory lane, one of the few benefits of attending a high school reunion is seeing what has become of your classmates and friends. Well, if you've become super successful, that is. Otherwise, it's an embarrassing drag.
Over a decade removed from the original "American Pie" film, Jim, Stiffler and the gang are getting back together for a ten year high school reunion in Universal's upcoming, cleverly titled flick, "American Reunion." And just as the film will examine what's become of each character in the years since their last film, "American Wedding," we can examine what has become of the stars that play them.
From salaries alone, we can tell that some have had a better few years than others. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actors being paid the most for returning to the franchise are Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott,...

The original Crow, based on a comic book by James O'Barr, featured Brandon Lee as a musician called Eric Draven, who rises from the dead to avenge his own murder, and that of his fiancee. The film became notorious when Lee died on set after a prop gun malfunctioned.

Eric Draven lives again.
"The Crow" has been a franchise that Hollywood has inexplicably rendered an utter and colossal failure. The original 1994 film starring the late, great Brandon Lee and directed by Alex Proyas was a genre masterpiece; a dark gothic fairy tale of tragic romance and violent revenge, with Lee as a slain musician brought back to life one year after he and his fiance are murdered to "put the wrong things right."
Lee was an A-list movie star in the making; imagine what his career -- and life -- might have been today had he survived the horrible on-set accident that took his life at age 28.
Maybe it's that so-called "Crow Curse" that has kept the franchise itself from taking flight. The 1996 sequel, "The Crow: City of Angels," was an incoherent mess (though it looked pretty), and the less said about the direct-to-video sequels, "The Crow: Salvation" (2000) and...

Tremors? Nightbreed? Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat? 976-evil? Are all on the list this year. And though there were not huge horror wins in sound editing through screenplays, the Technical Awards never cease to bring out the horror veterans. Notably Tim Drnec who contributed to such VHS classics as Alien Seed, Destroyer, and Prison won for his work on “Spydercam 3D volumetric suspended cable camera technologies.” An award also shared with Ben Britten Smith and Matt Davis who both also worked on Constantine.
But among all the winners, the Academy also honored some great loses in 2010. And though they mentioned some of our heroes, Dennis Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Dino de Laurentiis (King Kong), they did not mention Zelda Rubinstein or Corey Haim. Back in 2008, director Stephen Norrington (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) signed on to direct a new adaptation of creator James O’Barr’s graphic novel, The Crow. At the time, producer Ryan Kavanaugh was asked about the style of the character in the new adaptation and said “No, totally different… He’ll have makeup, but it will be different. The best way to compare it is the first Batman and Batman Begins. In terms of their look and feel and character.”
Back in June, producer Edward Pressman (The Crow: Wicked Prayer) spoke about the setting of the film and the differences from the original and said that ““The setting is the southwest – the Mexico/Arizona area – and an urban [setting], Detroit or Pittsburgh or something like that,” he described. “There are two locations that the film is set. Marcus Nispel's Conan film, due out next year, frankly terrifies me. I have absolutely zero faith in it. Of course, for nerds like me, Conan is a favorite character of mine -- I've read several of the original Robert E. Howard stories, as well as a few of the more contemporary ones (particularly those written by Robert Jordan and L. Sprague de Camp). The original, John Milius-directed Schwarzenegger film is, while a woefully inaccurate portrayal, still an enjoyable, if somewhat insane, sword-and-sandals romp (though we don't have to mention the sequel).
All of the information that's come out about Nispel's version is pretty much lousy, however. A few months ago, I recapped what we know so far, and it's worth revisiting:
The director of Pathfinder and the remake of Friday the 13th. A lead actor (Jason Momoa) from "North Shore" and "Baywatch." The screenwriters from A Sound of Thunder and Sahara.

Dennis Hopper’s long film career began with the 1955 teen angst classic Rebel Without a Cause with James Dean, and he helped usher in Hollywood’s New Wave as director and star of the counterculture anthem Easy Rider in 1969. He later became a respected character actor, specializing in such off-beat villains as the drug-addicted, obscenity-spouting Frank Black in David Lynch’s Blue Velvet (1986), crazed bomber Howard Payne in the 1994 action-thriller Speed with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, and Deacon in Kevin Costner’s soggy post-apocalyptic saga Waterworld (1995).
Hopper was born in Dodge City, Kansas on May 17, 1936. He moved to San Diego, California with his family in the late 1940s, and began studying at the local Old Globe Theater while attending high school. He soon signed with Warner Brothers and was featured in a small role in 1955’s Rebel Without a Cause. He was later featured as Jordan Benedict III, the...

Back in November we brought you some details on writer-director Stephen Norrington’s (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) reboot of The Crow and in February, we had an exclusive interview with the creator of The Crow (James O’Barr) and got his thoughts on the proposed remake. The Crow reboot producer Edward Pressman (The Crow: Wicked Prayer) told MTV that Stephen Norrington has finished the script and they are moving forward with casting.

Pressman also indicated that the setting for the film will be different than the original Alex Proyas directed film, with Norrington’s reboot set to take place in the Southwest and Detroit (or something like that?).

And the 3D craze keeps cooking along steadily with the announcement that yet another film riddled with things that pop out to say boo is coming, this one involving a writer, a freezer, and some really nasty personal demons.
According to Variety Edward Furlong (T2, Night of the Demons, The Crow: Wicked Prayer) has signed on to star alongside the previously announced genre vet Michael Berryman in Justin Thomas Ostensen's upcoming 3D chiller Below Zero.
The film centers on a blocked screenwriter who locks himself in a slaughterhouse freezer in the face of a looming deadline. Left with nothing but his own demons to distract him, he writes the story of a tow truck driver who finds himself accidentally locked in a slaughterhouse freezer with the barely alive victim of a serial killer.
Below Zero is filming as we speak in Canada. Keep it here for more soon.

The last time I wrote about it, after slogging through the online sources and doing a little digging, it began to dawn on me that, well, it's very likely that the movie is going to be awful. And not in an amusing way. Yes, I realize that the 1982 John Milius version isn't exactly Oscar-caliber cinema, but that doesn't mean it isn't good. Genuinely good. Sure, it's a little wacky in parts -- particularly James Earl Jones' hair, and the fact that, well, it's James Earl fucking Jones -- it's still a wildly adventurous bit of sword-and-sandals entertainment.

I fucking love Conan the Barbarian. Let's start with that.
We all know a new Conan flick is on the horizon. They've got a director that I don't trust worth a damn -- Marcus Nispel (Pathfinder, Friday the 13th). They've got their Conan -- Jason Momoa, whose resume reads like a selection of the worst that television has to offer: 78 episodes of "Stargate: Atlantis," 21 episodes of "North Shore," and 44 episodes of fucking "Baywatch." They've got a potential villain being played by a guy whose name is, hand to God, Raw Leiba.
I guess what I'm saying is, it does not look particularly promising. Another way of saying it is, "are you fucking kidding me with this bullshit? It's fucking Conan! A property loved and revered by geeks everywhere and you're putting it in the hands of these donkeys?"
So, the newest news is that Corin, father of Conan, might be cast soon.

Look at Mickey Rourke in this picture for a bit. Almost like a chiseled warrior of old (minus the neon green armbands) looking up to Crom asking why the God has forsaken his only son, Conan. This could very well be an image we see again, as The Heat Vision Blog has confirmed what Latino Review scooped last month that Rourke has signed on for the small but important role of Conan’s father, Corin. Rourke will be joining Stargate: Atlantis’ Jason Momoa who has already signed on to play the titular warrior.
With news also coming down the pike that screenwriter Sean Hood has been brought in to do a script polish, it is looking like the Conan remake is in full swing. We won’t hold it against Hood that he also wrote Halloween: Resurrection, Cube 2: Hypercube, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer. We’ll just let those...

Director Stephen Norrington has a hit-and-miss record when it comes to comic book movie adaptations. His Blade was praised by comic book fans and performed well enough at the box office to spawn two theatrical sequels and a short-lived TV series. However, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen failed to cover its budget at the domestic box office and was almost universally panned by critics.
When it was first announced that a new The Crow movie was in the works back in December 2008, Norrington, who is writing the script as well as directing, said that his intention is to make a more "realistic, hard-edged, and mysterious" movie than director Alex Proyas' "gloriously gothic and stylized" 1994 original. Not much has been heard about The Crow since then, but Norrington recently updated the status of the movie in a brief interview with Mania. The producer and visual effects people are crunching numbers.
