Not Burbank's worst, but still disappointing

I love animation, and I have liked a lot of Burbank Animation Studios' animations even with their limitations. But while not as bad as D4: The Trojan Dog and Hercules Anna and King is one of their weakest(I didn't care for their The Little Drummer Boy and The Hunchback of Notre Dame either). The music is quite good but could have been more subtly incorporated. However everything else is a let down. The animation is flatly coloured and has no finesse or fluidity, while the dialogue is cheesy and the story didn't ever move or even engaged me. The characters I was largely indifferent to. Anna is sympathetic and sincere, but the Prince especially is an unlikeable brat. Everyone else is bland. The voice acting is also lacking in subtlety or any real expression. All in all, disappointing and dull. 2/10 Bethany Cox

Musical with poor animation

If you liked "The King and I" by Rogers and Hammerstein, I'm afraid you will be bitterly disappointed with the results of this short animated version. The singing didn't end soon enough (and I enjoy a good musical), and the animation they chose for each scene made you question if they had ever seen the classic version themselves.

Your kids however, may enjoy it. But like Spirit, and Hunchback, it's doubtable.

Conclusion: If your looking to instill good taste while entertaining your youngsters, stick with the classic rendition. For adults I also recommend Chow Yun-Fat, acted version (no singing) of "Anna and the King" 1999.
