  • A starving little girl dies offscreen because her drunk father uses his money to buy alcohol instead of paying for a doctor. Very heartbreaking.
  • The film's ending is very sad since the real life Oden Takahashi was not only captured but became the last woman in Japanese history to be executed via beheading. The film explores the tragic reasons for her actions.
