An Omen
boblipton4 June 2020
Here's World Heavyweight champion James J. Jeffries at his training camp at the height of his powers, engaging in some of his exercis regimen. There's a bit of a contemporary gag; when a neatly dressed Black man stands up to walk away, Jeffries clouts him one with the ball, which looks about three titmes the size of the ones I knew in school half a century ago.

Ouch! Could the memory of this film have been part of the impetus to get him to come out of retirement, to be "the Great White Hope" against Jack Johnson.

Albert Smith and J. Stuart Blackton are credited as cinematographers. Since they were the owners of the company, this seems unlikely to me; on the other hand, I'm sure they tok advantage of the opportunity to watch the Champ training.
