Interesting counter-point to Latter Days
Havan_IronOak16 April 2004
Warning: Spoilers
In this short film we again have mormon missionaries away from home and tempted by things in the secular world.

Caution May contain spoilers

In this film Steven is a young idealistic missionary who meets up with Javier the senior missionary and is quickly seduced into abandoning some of the stricter teachings of the church. Seems Javier is into practicing his own. more liberal version of Mormanism.

In this atmosphere of freedom Steven goes a bit too far and is betrayed by Javier.

While this touches many of the same bases as Latter Days this is a much lower budget production. However it seemed that many of the morman teachings that were brought out in Latter Days were either unknown to or ignored by the film maker in this short.

This IS a good short subject. Unfortunately it covers much of the same territory as the masterful Latter Days and suffers by comparison.

Wonderful!

Tight writing - great directing! The actors were amazing - and I totally felt for the main character; I really wish it had been longer; that was it's only fault. I felt that the story could have been more fleshed-out and that the subject matter was important enough to warrant more time. However, given that we can't change that now, I really want people to know that this is a fantastic story and everyone involved should be really proud of their efforts. I hope to see more from the director; and I really hope to see more from the lead actor, Christopher Isaacson! Again, he was fantastic and he made me care deeply about his character and the outcome of his situation.

Very Good & Sexy Short Film!

I have seen this short film in several festivals and am amazed that it didn't play in Outfest LA this year (2004.) Perhaps the filmmakers didn't submit it??

An earlier version of this film was out BEFORE Latter Days. And I believe it was made the same time Latter Days was. It ran 22 minutes and had much more of a backstory for Javier's character. I believe that it is a much better and tighter version now that it is only 15min.

There is no way to compare this short with a feature, so don't even try to.

I really liked this short and hope to see it play more. I believe that the filmmaker kept it tight and intriguing. She should do well in the future. The acting was good and I felt the twist at the end really made me feel for Steven.
