Sexy comedy of another time
pacmann8 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
My vote comes strictly in the genre of sexy comedy not the overall quality. I'll be reviewing a few of these since they are selling everywhere and people need to be informed. This movie is set in 1991 in Mexico and it finds veteran comedy actor Alfonso Zayas playing a pact with the devil, which he must keep by having sex with a bevy of women. The women are on the higher end of the sexy comedy genre: Rosario Escobar is lithe and quite pretty, Jacaranda Alfaro is busty and has a womanly body (both show their attributes quite a bit). Lina Santos is oustanding and here's where the spoiler comes in. Santos a former local beauty queen, will parade in nighties and skimpy bikinis, but absolutely no nude or topless scenes. She made that deal early in her career. The plot is actually not bad as Zayas delivers some laughs, and Roberto Ballesteros who plays Santos character's husband is playing his usual devilish foil. This was perhaps the last well known sexy comedy that showed lots of nudity, after 1992, the sex would be implicit and the women kept their clothes on, as the powers to be in the Mexican cinema industry wanted to legitimatize the industry. Yet sexy comedies since their inception in the mid 1960s remain as popular as ever.

A historical context with a fun approach.
TheMexFilm22 April 2024
When we talk about a movie having Zayas' performance, it has two factors in common: The first is that it will be terrible and the second is that it will have implicit nudity.

This one in particular is better than many of the movies he made and it doesn't have as many nudity as one would think, since it is a home video that tries to explain the story of an event that happened in Monterrey and do it in a fun way.

The performances in this case are not as bad as many would think and in fact I think the story is a little far from what really happened in Mexico, even so it is fun and I think it has a lot to offer for connoisseurs of ficheras cinema.

DVD has No English Sub-Titles, No English Track
rapidyh5 March 2006
I watched fifteen minutes of this DVD before I gave up. When I rented it, I did not notice the lack of English sub-titles or track. What I did see was a sexual farce on the old deal with the devil plot. The action and special effects somehow reminded me of Benny Hill, but without Benny's music. The movie focuses on a 5,000 year old man, Alonso. He made a deal with the devil to live 5,000 years. Alonso wants to have sex with as many women as possible. He tries to negotiate a new deal to live longer. I wish that they could add sub-titles to this DVD to make it more accessible. That it lacks the sub-titles leads me to doubt its overall value.
