Very good short-film
manager-875 May 2007
I saw this film, and I found it very very very good !! Very good scenario for an excellent film-noir. I love thrillers and this one is very attractive. The story sticks you. Actors are completely in ! Some kinda humour-noir inside (which I like). The director seems to be promised to a great future, in my opinion. I absolutely recommend you to see this film. The guy who shot that film must be recommended to producers. I think he could give a good touch to their movies. I would like the director to know that he's very excellent, very well filmed, very good suspense, good actors, very good shots, very good image. I really enjoy one sequence in it, but I won't tell you which one, I let you watch it !!

All the best Seb

Pure Cinema and the seeds of something great.

Blues Stop was screened for me shortly after it appeared in the festival circuit. I was not expecting much, having worked with student filmmakers for years and been inundated over the years by peoples first efforts. I was pretty damned impressed. This is no student film but a solid story with beautiful visuals and a definite cinematic voice. Alex appears to have learned a thing or two in the years since I saw his first (incredibly violent - yet impressive) short film. What struck me most was a sense of personal style and a deft handling of actors. I think this guy is going to go places and I am interested to see his next efforts. Well done - lets hope he gets a big film after this.

Nice little film

Nice little film ? No ! I should say nice little masterpiece from France. Blues stop is a crackling good melodrama inspired by the work of master filmmakers like David Lynch or Jim Jarmush. A film where the women are pretty but not beautiful, a film where nothing is gratious, a film so different that it becomes almost an art house film even so we know from the opening that the director's main influences come from American cinema, but with a European style and sensibility in to it that exposes the dark core of the human heart and the power a woman can have over a man. To finish I would say that Blues Stop possesses a taunt, exciting script that throws surprises at the viewers all the way to the final credits.

Strange, weird and great

It's a beautiful accomplishment a successful genre combination of film noir, thriller, horror and sexuality a femme fatale film that's sinister, disquieting and deliberately obscure. In the vain of a David Lynch film, one of the few french films made into that genre, It is a great film, even if a little short. It adds a lot of depth to a genre that sorely needs it. Yet again French cinema takes an American genre and transforms it. In this case, "Blues Stop" recalls the heyday of American road movies but with a mix of horror ans sex and strong influences towards Lost Hiways, Kalifornia and many others. The only negative thing I cans say about this film is that I feel the the ending was a little quick and can have been done in a better manner. Anyways the director represents that new wave of french filmmakers who want to change the intellectual establishment of french cinema.

I saw this film at Cannes I was impressed by the melange of American and french elements it is evident that Mr Kyriakidis is a film maker of great potential also it was a delight to see the American actor Steve Foster in the role of the biker speaking a very credible french i first discovered this actor in 1969 with Robert Downey Jr i hope to see more of him in future films especially in France. I hope a DVD release is coming soon, why not a longer cut of this short. I read Mr Kyriakidis is preparing to shoot a television series for the french. I can't wait to see more of his work. Welcome to new talents in a world that only favors commercial movies. Mr Kyriakidis there is a place for you in the global cinema. Keep on working.

Great

I Have seen this film at the Nice film festival, and oh my god! It is great, the best film of the festival. Very intertaining, smart, a work of pure cinema, it feels good to see something different. A woman serial killer on a revenge spree, i think it is unique in french cinema, and the acting was wonderfull for most of the cast, what is rare in short films, even rare in french movies to be honest. My only regret about the film it is the lenght it is to short , only 20 minutes, but what a superb 20 minutes. I just can't wait to see the next film from the same team who brought us this superb short film. I give it a 10/10

Very Good

I was truly shocked at how good the "Blues Stop" looked, I was really fearing that it would be an other boring typical french film, but it wasn't. This movie is not for everyone. You need to have a taste for the unusual; you need to understand satire. If you are halfway intelligent, if you like good drama and can tolerate subtitles, if you enjoy something a bit different, then you will probably like this. It's an equivalent of an orgasmic frenzy of violence and sex. I can't stress enough how well the cinematography was. The scenes and choice of locations were incredible and a perfect fit for this dark and murky short. Overall, I think it was the acting and realism of the characters that pushed this short into being so great. Even if you don't like it, you'll at least see a lot of realistic scenarios between characters.

This is evidence of a talented young man.

I should say from the outset that I know Alex. Indeed it was him that showed me this short film not long after it was finished. I would also say to those reading this that while I enjoy films I am not a cinema buff. I prefer 12 Angry Men to The Terminator. I prefer Goldfinger to Skyfall. Thirdly, I would say that Blues Stop is not particularly my kind of film. So, the following commentary should be seen in the context of the foregoing. My view is ... Given the budget and the early career stage of Alex this is a very good effort indeed ! I know that, for me, the sign of a good film is - would I and could I watch it again ? (i.e. maintaining an interest). I have to say, in this case, the answer is YES ! That may not sound great praise to you but it is meant as a sincere compliment. On this showing he has talent. You should watch it.
