I thought this years award ceremony was good but not as good as last years.

Saif Ali khan deserved the awards he won because he was fabulous in Kal ho naa ho. Preity Zinta deserved to win the award for best actress in a leading role and I was glad she won for Kal ho naa ho. She should have won best villain award but it was nice to see her winning for best actress in a leading role.

Shahrukh Khan should have won best actor for Kal ho naa ho and Hrithick Roshan should have won critics which he did.

The awards were still good and the performances were absolutely great the way it was presented was even greater.

Situation Vacant..

I saw Zee Awards held in Marina Bay Singapore, with Hosts Sajid Khan and Akshay Kumar. This was the funniest Hindi award show I have seen. The highlight was Priyanka Chopra, with few funny skits. She is not only a great actress but totally uninhibited and bold to do the skits that no other actress would have had the guts to do. The Film Fare awards with Imran Khan and Ranbir Kapoor was a tasteless buffoonery compared to the Zee awards.

What Indian Film Industry needs are good Hosts. I have watched countless awards including this one, and there is a void when it comes to the Hosting. There are very few who can do this job and do it well. Javed Jaffrey is obnoxious, unfunny and downright degrading. Archana Puran Singh is too serious and unfit for this job. Sharukh Khan has gift of the gab with spontaneity, comes across as rude (grabbing Mic. from fellow actors,) prejudicial to other contestants and dominating. His teaming with Saif Ali Khan is more buffoonery, than hosting with ill conceived jokes and ill prepared material. Karan Johar can play a good "Straight Man" to the co-host (with Juhi Chawla-as in recent Zee Tele awards,) but comes across as sarcastic. A Host first of all, has to have comic reserve, a quick wit, ability to ad-lib and be respected by the fraternity for their abilities in their respective field and should have had longevity in the field-bottom line-funny but not condescending or obscene. There are very few who fit the bill-they are Anil Kapoor, Shekar Suman, Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty and Juhi Chawla.

The industry has to recognize that an Emcee/Hosts can make or break a show-just look at the Oscars. After Bob Hope-the greatest Emcee ever-the only one came close to him was Billy Crystal. Even Johnny Carson came across as nervous. Few that would make best Hosts in my astute observation would be, Shekar Suman/Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla/Shilpa Shetty. But the best are the Trio of Sajid Khan, Akshay Kumar and Prinyanka Copra. Till then the Award Committee as well put the "Situtation Vacant" Sign.

Not as good as last year's

Although not as bad as a couple years ago, the 2003 Filmfare Awards was not anywhere close to what it was last year. First of all, Archana Puran Singh makes an absolutely terrible MC. Performances were not as "zabardust" and "dhamakadar" as last year. Kareena's dedication to her sister was really boring. Hrithik didn't have any variety in his choreography, and his new hairstyle looks terrible. Two new awards were instituted this year. One of them was really stupid--the Filmfare Power Award. I still don't get what that one's about. John and Bipasha's performance was hot. This highlight of the show was unquestionably the hilarious duo, SRK and Saif. They extended their "Kantaben" sequence from Kal Ho Naa Ho. I thought KHNH should have won more awards rather than Koi...Mil Gaya, although both are awesome movies. Well, next year is the 50th awards. I'm looking forward to a special show!
