A tale of struggling actors & wanna bee models in a world of vultures preying on dreams.
pozniakkamil3 October 2005
I didn't think I was going to like this film because it sounded like such a chick flick but I gave it a try and was positively surprised. The story focuses on Miriam, a mentally disabled woman and Marcy, the modeling instructor. You watch this film and you laugh because everybody is so naive and gullible. You're thinking, where do these people come from? And then you are like, wait a minute, didn't I just buy another can of slim fast? What about those diet pills I tried last month, and that personal trainer I called? Aren't we all a little obsessed with our self image and the desire to be wanted? Just pick up any magazine and look at the adds. Air brushed images that tell us what we should wear and look like. And the pressure isn't just on woman anymore. It's us men who are being hunted by images of bulging muscles and ripped abs. I say, every parent who is signing up their kid for any of those modeling training schools should watch Runaway Divas. Great film, I highly recommend it!

After watching this film beauty has a different meaning.
niebieski9921 June 2007
A great comedy with an emotional twist. A wonderful film for those long summer nights. The film resembles a painting. Beautiful bold colors and dream like characters. It starts out like a dream. Miriam is full of hope and her dream of becoming a model is coming true when she gets accepted into the agency. Marcy is part of the big scam and hopes that it will help with her modeling career. The two girls become friends and find out that friendship is the most important thing. Runaway Divas shows that true friendship can change your life and that sometimes dreams can mislead us into a world that isn't ours. It is a must see for anyone who is obsessed with beauty.

A must see for anyone who ever PAID to be a 'model'!
Seashorebeauty22 July 2004
The movie is very realistic. There are sooo many scam agencies out there and this movie pretty much sums up the process (registration fees, runway training sessions...etc). The talent industry is so misunderstood, and there are sooo many people (especially young teens) that want a fast break in the business. They will pay ANY amount to be part of the glamorous world and expect to be jet setting to exotic locations for photo shoots and be pampered by a team of skilled beauty experts...BUT that's not how these agencies work. They play with your vulnerability and take advantage of you and your money in the end. These scam agencies are the type that make the real agencies look bad... FINALLY! Someone made a film that could hopefully shed light to the ugly and messy side of the industry! BRAVO!

Miriam, a thirty year old mentally challenged woman dreams of becoming a model.
asiunia004 March 2005
It is a touching independent film about friendship, obsession with beauty, self esteem, and dreams.

Miriam a thirty year old mentally challenged girl dreams of becoming a model. She gets accepted into a modeling agency where for $549 dollars anyone can be a model. The agency is run by Vince, the sleazy owner and his assistant Marcy, who is naive and believes that one day Vince will make her famous. The film focuses on the relationship between Marcy and Miriam. Since it is based on a true story I think anyone who ever paid or plans to pay for any kind of modeling job or photos should see this film. It will make you think twice before you sign up with any of those agencies. Great film to rent if you have a teenager at home.

The somewhat dark reality of wanting something bad enough...
ang_forrester6 October 2005
The somewhat dark reality that even if you want something bad enough & give your all sometimes you don't get it........or do they? The cast including the films creators all developed & portrayed unique believable characters including the sometimes "peyote-ESE" invoked Guiseppe Vilentee , the "dreamy" eccentric fashion designer. Cupcake exemplified the typical gum smacking clerical type self perceived as fashion expert in every office. Vince , the smart , shrewd, dark...somewhat slimy business type "evil' influence" of the movie finally after years building his company on crushed dreams of struggling young models finally got his....& took his beating well. Adam , Miriams big brother & guardian type was perhaps the most believable character. Adam a simple "average Joe" mail carrier struggles to play "provider/caregiver" & big brother to his mentally challenged "Slow" sister Miriam who like every little girl has a dream....to be a star. Trying to protect Miriam , Adam falls in love with the modeling agency's lovely make up artist Marcy. Marcy is torn between the somewhat established , no longer new bee status within her business , the darker dealings & business reality or the sweet ,innocent virgin lamb , brought to slaughter that is Miriam. Miriam, was the movies little darling , the kid everyone roots for & in the end fails.............or did she?

Not a lot of peaks & valleys , the film consistently holds interest & overall has to be considered utterly splendid.

Unique, Funny. This is an excellent independent film
superpimp623 July 2004
I give praise to these young, determined group of people. They have created a twisted side to the modeling world and the scams that are associated with the industry. I am pretty sure we have all seen the modeling advertisements in the newspaper.

It has spectacular moments between characters for depth and drama. But along with the drama are crazy, hilarious, spoofs, scenes and character interaction.

I recommend this film to all that want to see a new style. It is a mix of the Farrelly Brothers and some European humor. These 2 young female directors have a bright future and a twisted sense of humor.

A "Must See" comedy about a corrupt modeling agency!!!
paulirmen8 November 2005
Runway Divas is an absolutely terrific film. If you're thinking of watching a great film with a million laughes and with actors that were cast so perfectly to their on-screen characters, that you feel you've known them before, then this is a "Must See" comedy for you. This film appeals to every type of comedic enthusiast. The name strikes you with mystery until the first ten minutes of the film which really reaches out and grabs you and keeps you enthralled till the end. This unique comedy was so cleverly manufactured with a terrific story-line and with a talented array of characters that'll have you laughing till your stomach hurts. I would highly rate this cleverly adapted comedy with no less than an A Rating

Sad but true
DoctorDeNada13 October 2005
As it's said at the beginning of the movie... this is based on a true story. And if you know anyone who's tried to become a model, actor, writer or anything else in the entertainment field, you probably heard a story rather similar to the one in the movie. There has popped up a sea of vultures who have made way too much money feeding off the dreams of others and this movie has finally shown a spotlight on these crooks.

I wish that Runway Divas was far-fetched fiction, but no matter how outlandish the story seemed to get, I had no doubt that somewhere... sometime just this exact situation has probably taken place. Even though the filmmakers tried to show it's humorous side, the drama always slipped through and you really began to feel for all the poor shmucks that got suckered into making idiots of themselves.

Most of my experience with independent films have usually left me bored from a slow story about somebody trying to find themselves, but this film told us a story that has not yet been covered by traditional Hollywood. And that's what independent films are suppose to do.

Touching story about a mentally challenged girl who wants to become a model.
cyganka200022 July 2004
I enjoyed every minute of it. Great cast, beautiful colors.

I was very impressed with the quality. Very touching, made me cry and laugh at the same time.

The story focuses on Miriam, an overly ambitious mentally challenged accordion player, who more than anything in the world wants to be a model. She signs with a neighborhood modeling agency owned by a scam artist who recruits clients by selling the idea that anyone can be a model. I would recommend for anyone to see it especially young people who ever considered working in the modeling industry. It is an eye opener.

Dark, Dramatic & Clever Comedy Based On A True Story
normairmen15 December 2005
To all you fanatical movie goers out there; this is a very brilliant dark and twisted comedy that will leave you jolted and have you glued to your seats. Seriously!!! once the film begins, forget about going to the restroom or concession stand because this film will have you entranced. I am not one who really cared so much for independent films until I was fortunate enough to view this one. A must see to all who appreciate great movie making talent and hard work in the independent film industry. This film opens our eyes to the scam artists of the world who tear apart the dreams of common people hoping to live the ultimate dream of becoming a so-called star. It depicts a variety of very likable characters and adds drama and comedy to a really twisted plot. This movie will have you laughing and crying while you see the sick truth of how cruel our society can really be. My hat's off to the film makers who worked so brilliantly hard to create this fine masterpiece of independent film work. BRAVO!!!

Entertaining and funny!
zuzana-zborilova23 January 2008
This movie was very entertaining and funny. I would recommend it to all my girlfriends. My favorite part was when the male models had their photo shoot in the alley. Especially the gym shoes, SEXY! I know way too many people who can relate to this movie, which is a sad. There are just too many people hung up on their looks in this society. This movie shows us all the extremes people are willing to go through to make others see them as "beautiful." In most cases, money is hardly an issue if it can promise desirability and love. The movie is colorful and fun, which makes it much more interesting to watch them most independent films. Runaway Divas is a movie I would watch more than once and I hope to see more independent films like this.
